How is that not established.... Hearns' two big Light Middle wins came against a blown up Welter and a blown up Lightweight.
Its a weird thing with Hearns, I have read that he has declared Middleweight as his best weight and he did establish himself at Light Heavy - but at Middleweight he won the title looking shaky, and not a great version of the title, and he lost it in his first defence.
About as established as Tito was at the weight... Tito beat the #2 in the devision, also beat a former world champion still very much in the top ten post Hopkins.
DLH was clearly established at Light Middle (his best performances/victories have come at this weight)... Tito I would argue was at Middleweight. DLH was no Middleweight.
I am still trying to maintain that Hopkins fought mediocre fighters in the mediocre division and he had his big fights against naturally smaller men and one of the main factors in those wins was that size difference. That would not have been the case if he fought Hearns.
ODLH will probably fight at welter next! Whereas Hopkins has grown into a fully fledged L/Heavy

Someone like Sugar Ray Leonard held all the qualities a fighter should have - both mental and physical.
Gym fighters like Oliver McCall, Greg Page etc had all the physical tools but lacked the winner's mindset to convert their promise into achievement. Its not so much wasted talent as they were missing a key ingredient to succeed at the highest level - the mental side of the game that produces winners.
Greg Page's heart wasn't into fighting totally to begin with, his father forced him, so he would always have problems at some level.
ya its a shame about patrick blueboy gallagher.
he was a good boxer as a amerture . but he could not cut it as a professional boxer.
suppose anyone can win titles over 3 rounds.
but when you have to train and box over 6 rounds it gets really hard.
thats when you separate the men from the boys.
Mental talent is as much as physical talent, especially in boxing. The guys you are looking for obviously haven't got any of the former in place of a little bit of the latter. It's a non-starter. Look where Zab Judah got with no mental talent...he still hit the top!! He leads/led just as troubled an out of ring existence as David Barnes who goes out partying (wow!) Guys like Barnes are just overrated after beating barely British level opponents.
Both Evatt and Costello were supposed to be fantastic, [ Blue Boy Gallagher ] as well, but their lifestyles apparently let them down. now read story below coco.

Crack addict gang jailed

A gang of drug-crazed armed robbers from Enfield who assaulted and tied up their terrified elderly victims have been jailed for a total of 32 years.
Jeffery Galvin, 20, of Thetford Close, Palmers Green, Patrick blueboy Gallagher, of Steward Close, Cheshunt, and Clifford Land, 23, of Clarence Road, Enfield, were sentenced at tottenham crown Court on Friday 3th march 2006.
The court was told the violent crack-addicted gang forced their way into pensioners' homes in the middle of the night armed with knives, crowbars and screwdrivers.
They threatened and humiliated victims during lengthy ordeals, ransacking homes for cash, jewellery and credit cards.
The masked men would routinely get high on crack in front of their victims and rip up treasured documents such as letters and birth certificates.
Often they would steal house keys and lock their victims in their own homes or cut telephone wires before they made their escape.
In one incident, on January 6, 2004, the trio raided the home of a Winchmore Hill pensioner who had just returned from visiting his wife in a care home.
Wearing balaclavas, and armed with screwdrivers, the gang bundled the 70-year-old to the floor and tied his arms and legs with scarves.
After ransacking his home, the gang fled, leaving their terrified pensioner bound on the floor.
Det Insp Nev Nolan, of the Met's territorial policing crime squad, said: "These were terrible offences against elderly and vulnerable victims, some of whom died three to six months after the offences.
"These men not only burgled their homes, but did it in an excessive and violent way."
Police launched Operation Finbec after linking the gang to 45 offences during a five-month crime spree across Enfield, Barnet, Waltham Forest, Tottenham, Redbridge and Hackney.
Investigations led to a house in Sketty Road, Enfield, where a stash of balaclavas, wire cutters, a crowbar and screwdrivers were found.
DI Nolan added: "Many of the victims will never get over what happened to them, are unable to sleep and are too afraid to answer the door or go out.
"They have lost treasured possessions and the security they once felt in their own home."blueboy
Jobless jeffery Galvin was jailed for 15 years after he was found guilty of conspiring to commit robbery on February 3 2006..
patrick blueboy Gallagher admitted four offences of robbery and one attempted burglary in December 2005 and was jailed for nine years.
