I think Fury's team were unhappy about the padding, as it was making the canvas too bouncy and soft - takes a fighters legs away if you have too much give in the canvas, obviously as the plan was to move a lot, they were worried that it would suit Wlad, who was less mobile than Fury.

From what I can see Usyks team are complaining about a very fine indentation where two of the boards underneath the canvas are married together - it looks very minor, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to take any chances.

There is so much goes on behind the scenes in that regard, and also in the past, accomodation, training venues etc, especially where home advantage is concerned.

I'm not sure the various commissions even have agreed minimum and maximum sizes for a ring, which i think is usually anywhere from 16 foot square, to 24 foot square, which is a fornicating huge variance.

As you say, a massive variance - the 20ft ring is 56% bigger in area than the 16ft ring, so a real advantage to a fighter who likes to move. And if a fighter has come up through small hall shows, where many promoters will often go for a 16ft ring simply because it may allow them an extra row of chairs at ringside, I would expect it's a real shock if/when they have to fight in a much bigger ring - must seem like being in a field.

Haven't heard of a 24ft limit - where is/was that happening? I always like a geeky stat...

Have all the weigh ins already happened? Looks like all we’re getting is those disingenuous ceremonial weigh ins at 7pm. Cordina Cacace have already weighed in. Might be different with Fury - Usyk as there is no weight limit.

I may have this wrong, but I have it in my head that the ring for Ali v Cooper II at Highbury was 24ft.

Not sure really. I think it’s likely a control thing. UFC have been doing this for ages and it’s creeping into boxing.
