That's actually a well-known photo of Ron. I remember seeing it multiple times in the 1970s boxing magazines. I agree that he looks menacing and powerful.
that particular photo looks very similar (if not almost exactly)
like the photograph of Ron Lyle punching Jimmy Ellis up against the ropes
in the book OFF THE ROPES. Would'nt you agree ?
I don't remember that particular photo, although I did peruse "Off the Ropes" in the bookstore, reading certain passages. I thought it was well-written, detail-rich, and interesting (based on what little I read).

The Lyle vs. Ellis photo I remember most depicted Ron swinging a powerful left-hook to Ellis's body, in center ring, with Jimmy standing straight-up, elbows tucked, possible blocking the punch.

Ellis, of course, was washed-up at the time of this bout. But he still must have been pretty good if he was able to hang in there with Lyle for the full route. At this stage of Jimmy's career, he may still have qualified, just marginally, as a top-ten contender, or no worse than top-15.

I wonder how Ellis, in his own mind and based on experience, would compare Lyle and Bugner, given that he fought them both.

Point taken. Something interesting about this juncture of Lyle's career is that he came very close to fighting Bugner in a rematch, in California. But the bout fell through.

I wonder who would have won, given that Joe, at that point, was more or less washed up too.

and don't foreget, Bugner had fought Lyle with a broken foot, which surely must have hampered his mobility within the ring.
BTW OFF THE ROPES had been later re-vised and re-printed.
i have the first edition (which I noticed does have some mistakes in it,
such as claiming Jack O'Halloran had played "Jaws" in the James Bond films
(he did aution for it tho)
also it toned down some incidents that happened after Ron Lyle quit the ring, the later incident when the police were called to a domestic dispute,
in which a woman (probably his wife) had either fell or was thrown from a balconey.
btw the photo shows Ellis up against the ropes,
bending over and Lyle throwing what looks like a right hook.
