Okay you are probably right about the Bugner vrs London fight recorded via kinescope.
So what are the chances that Quarry vrs Mathis was also preserved on kinescope?
Perhaps that was done and copies sent to various U.S military bases across the world.
For our fighting men to watch.

klompton wrote: First of all: Ive already discussed the extreme rarity of a reel to reel video recorder from those days. Few people had them and those that did could only record short snippets of video reel to reel (not off of a tv) and they were in black in white and that this early they would have been found only in Europe and unlikely in the hands of private individuals. That being said: The idiot who claimed for years to have a recording of this fight said it was complete, in color, and featured Don Dunphy. So no dice.
So how do you know for sure that this so called 'idiot" who claimed to have a complete recording of this fight(Quarry vrs Mathis)in colour,
didnt have it on kinescope like the Bugner vrs London fight of 1970?
BTW Is this so called "idiot" still around selling boxing tapes?

But how do you figure that the earlier Buster Mathis vs George Chuvalo bout
February.3.1969 Madison Square Garden.
still exists on video-tape?
Since it would appeared to have been also broadcast on Television Sports,Inc. too?

No one knows what happened to that film. All did not survive the time. I have been a collector for 35 years and never came across it ---I have many rear fights which did survive---including tons of film transfers from all eras----there is no answer---tons of broadcasts have not turned up---would love a copy---I love it all and have tons of fights including color clips of marciano vs Charles and Moore-----I have been extensively looking for more and trading until recently when a few years ago my friend Anthony Fosco passed on and I shut it down for a while as his passing was sad and it seemed less important. He was one the great film collectors and he never found a copy!

The only chance I see that this fight survives is if one of the major international broadcasting stations were sent a copy to broadcast in their respective countries. That they didn't delete the film/tape. I believe the existence of the film in the USA has been proven as a negative.

Talk about rare-Check this out,it appears to be 16 mm film of a video-tape of a local television broadcast
of Jerry Quarry vrs Argentinian Heavyweight Alex Miteff live from the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles California April-27-1967.

The point is,not how rare this particular footage is to collectors today, but how was this earlier fight of Quarry's preserved and the Mathis bout was not(seemingly)
as both were televised. What were the circumstances?
Who recorded/filmed the Quarry vrs Miteff fight anyway?

Thats a stupid question. You are talking apples and oranges. Simply because one fight got preserved doesnt mean every fight after that had to be preserved. Its like asking why Jack Johnson Vs Tommy Burns exists today but not Jack Johnson Vs. Jim Johnson. The answer is basically "shit happens." There is no rhyme or reason as to why one fight survives and one doesnt. We already explained to you that the original tape of this fight which was shot on quad or 3/4" was destroyed in a warehouse fire before copies were ever made of it. Thats a simple fact and an unpredictable occurance. Its no different than the fact that Sugar Ray Robinson's retirement party at MSG survives on film but the Main Event that night, the first fight ever broadcast coast to coast in color, Griffith-Gonzalez 2 was destroyed in the same fire that destroyed Quarry-Mathis. Shit happens. Its a lot easier to deal with it than to invent bizarre conspiracy theories as to why those things happened or far fetched goofy scenarios as to how they might not have happened.

check this
That looks to be Super 8mm amateur film footage of Quarry vrs Mac Foster(1970) taken from a different ring angle
then the well known video-tape of the fight.
check it out at about 7:40 of this clip.

Hey Cactusass,
It appears to me the point of your most recent contribution is to express "hope" that perhaps there is a celluloid or video of that fight, that was taken, and then it was misfiled, lost, or simply forgotten somewhere. And someday someway, when you least expect someone will say..."Smile! I'ts on candid camera!
It's possible.
Now will you sit down, we've all seen your new hat.
But every empirical fact currently indicates otherwise. This after MUCH exhaustive investigation. You need to just plant your brain in reality, and see if it reaps a harvest.
Now.....with that said, I am currently negotiating with Klompton over some sealed 8MM film that was rumored to be in that area at the time of the fight. I'll keep you posted on how that unwinds.

BTW does anyone know what song that is being played over the super8mm amateur film footage of Quarry vrs Foster?
sounds like it may be James Brown.
BTW That programme the Jerry Quarry Chronicles was shown on ESPN almost 10 years ago,
I only seen it the other day so the amateur film footage is news to me.
I wonder how many minutes of the six rounds they were able to film with a super8 camera?
perhaps the brought several and had someone re-load the camera in between?

check out this "info-mmercial" that Jerry Quarry did way back in 1967.
I think that rare fight clip at that end is that of Jerry Quarry vrs Billy Daniels. September.15.1967-Sports Arena.L.A.

Lol. That wasnt an infomercial. Quarry trained for daniels using a very early sports drink which would become gatorade. That was part of the promotion.

Hey man,can we just stick to the subject matter here,
which would be what are(were) Jerry Quarry's rare and "lost" televised/filmed fights.
What is the earliest fight of his that you have in your collection?
(either amateur or professional).

BTW That was Jerry Quarry's 17th professional fight.
It was on the same card of Joe Frazier vrs Dick Wipperman.
March.4.1966 at Madsison Square Garden NYC.
(So why didnt the poster post all 10 rounds?
Do they not exist?
btw check this out

BTW If I was Dick Wipperman's manager back in 1965-1966,
I think I would have had suggested that he drop the "man" out of his last name and add an "h" and just be
"Dick Whipper".
Because maybe it would have increased attendence and the box office at his fights by some.

check out this rare 6 minute clip extract(from a 10 round fight)
of Jerry Quarry vrs Eddie Machen July.14.1966 Olympic Auditorium Los Angeles California.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih-nNCUuZBg
(you know the crtics said Quarry was lackluster in this fight, but in these rounds here it looks to me like Quarry
was the one takeing the intiative and actually fighting, even when Eddie Machen seems to go 'plumb loco" at one point in the round there)
