Apart from the Tyson fight, Bonecrusher had a lot of heart.

I hear what you're saying but if the Mercer that lost to Ferguson, or the Mercer that was dominated by Damiani for 8 rounds, or the Mercer that was totally outclassed by an old Larry Holmes, turned up, he'd lose to all of them I think.

It's funny, once a fighter has retired for good, fans are less critical and get a bit nostalgic.... They look through rose tinted spectacles.

I followed Mercer since 1988 Olympics when he walked through everyone.... But he rather flattered to deceive as a pro.

Mercer Had some good fights, the best one being Tommy Morrison... Although Tommy was chinny and also Morrison was winning until the fifth. But a good performance nonetheless. Also against Lewis, though some would say Lewis just had a bad night.

But one must also remember his sub par performances:

Split against Ossie Occasio
Distance fights against Kimmuel Odom, Jerry Jones and Ossie Occasio
Out boxed by Jesse Ferguson
Out boxed by Damiani until he bangs Francesco right on the tip of his big nose
Out boxed by Ancient Larry Holmes
DRAW! with Marion Wilson

Destroyed by Klitschko..... Ok Ray was a little shot, but anyone suggesting that Mercer would beat him in his prime are deluded. oh, he'd have a chance.... But only a small one.

Yes fair enough, Merc could be pretty dreadful at times ( did he really ask that fella to throw that fight? I think he did ..) but a seriously tough SOB, a chin of iron and his KO of Morrison is still one of the most brutal of all time, thanks to a psychotic referee.

Have to admit I'll be intrigued to see old Ike back in the ring, even though I know it won't end well ( and let's be honest, there's not many will sympathize ) but hopefully he's clear of his demons, and they don't match him too harshly.

At his peak he was one seriously scary mother*****.

Threads like this show how deluded people really are. If the guy wasn't undefeated no one would care. It just shows you how important the "0" is to causal fans who really don't know anything about boxing.

Ike Ibeabuchi is absolutely shot away and should be receiving mental health care around the clock. He tried to commit suicide and permanently handicapped a child. He actually thought he was a president. They you have the incident with the knife and finally imprisonment for battery with intent and attempted sexual assault. Which he couldn't stand as he was incompetent to stand trial.

Should someone with this past problems really be fighting? Because morons like some people in here want to see him fight again simply because of his "0". Promoters and TV stations know you'll tune in and they can make money. Exploiting a mentally ill man is disgraceful. People should be ashamed of themselves.
