To the Kovalev nut huggers, it was a nice KO but Shebransky isn't that great. Sheb got KOd by Barrera,
who couldn't find Ward.
Complete revisionist thought.
How would you describe the fight?
It was a Ward clear win, but it was competitive throughout. Saying Barrera "couldn't find Ward" is complete and utter garbage. People were saying Ward doesn't belong at 175 lbs. and looked slow after that fight.

I'd have to re watch it again to know if I'd agree with your response. The fight was pretty boring so I probably won't. My memory, the scoring of pundits, and the punch stats seems to bear out a comfortable Ward win. Kovalev is more fun to watch than Ward, I'll give you guys that.

Shabranskyy is the worst opponent Kovalev has fought since Sillakh. This was a mismatch from the day it was announced.
Kovalev is damn good but this fight didn't prove anything.

so what if barrera didnt have much success against ward. ward is way better defensively than any lhw around. the whole ward-kov drama is so fuckking tiring! ppl crying robbery, ppl hoping for kov to be 'broken', stupid dickheads screaming at each other and acting like each mans successes are their own.

ya shab aint great but just curious about what proves something? like if there are doubts about his mentality in a tough fight, but then he goes and easily kos sullivan barrera, do we still say he hasnt proved anything since he wasnt put thtough adversity?
guy loses to p4p atg, 'oh, now he has to prove to us hes not shot'

A lot of good points on all of that. I suppose I could have been more diplomatic that nut huggers.

But one guy made last nights fight sound like it was Louis knocking out Schmeling.
My summary is pretty simple: first fight was close but thought the decision was right. Kovalev better to watch than Ward. I wish 2nd fight wasn't stopped when it was so there'd be no doubt

for the record to me first couldve gone either way (there was no one result that was the only 'right result) and second ward was starting to boss and wouldve won by even without any posdible fouls
but ffs not again! it doesnt have to be a never ending 'oh, hes not as good as ward' 'oh, it was a robbery' 'oh no it was the right decision' 'oh, kov must be broken, he lost to an atg'
lets move on ffs! king ward has retired and there are other good fights for kov and we dont have to hope hes broken or keep up the nuthugger war!not everything has to be in a ward-kov context.so what if barrera couldnt land much vs an atg defensive fighter.

I don't think he has to prove he's not shot. With Ward gone he's still at worst the #2 guy in the division. I just don't think beating up a guy like Shabranskyy is meaningful. Hell Shabranskyy is worse than most of Stevenson's recent opponents which is really saying something.

Shabranskyy is better than the version of Fonfara Stevenson beat. That's inarguable. He also might be better than Thomas WIlliams Jr., that's a toss-up.

There is zero basis for saying Shabranskyy is better than Fonfara. From what I can tell, Shabranskyy is about as good as the shopworn version of Chad Dawson that Fonfara KO'd earlier this year.

Didn't learn anything about the stamina problem. Fight looked like sanctioned assault.

Shabransky isn't clearly better or worse than fonfara or Williams. I'd favor him over both of them, he's better than karpency. Not sure why it matters. Kovalev has proven himself against much better than all of them.

Kovalev didn't lose legitimately so stop pretending he did... He was robbed of a clear decision win in the first Ward fight.. He was slightly ahead in the rematch when he bent over from deliberate low blows.. Ward had been warned about low blows earlier in the fight so I expected Weeks to give him 5 minute rest and take 2 points from Ward for a deliberate foul.. A deliberate foul is 2 points – that’s the rule.
Ward was doing better in the rematch and having a good round, but I’m sure that had more to do with all the low blows he got away with. The fight was far from over and nobody can say Ward won it when some referees would have DQ’d Ward by then.
Larry Holmes bent over several times from low blows by Gerry Cooney. Bending over from a low blow doesn't mean "I quit." ... Holmes was immediately given 5 minutes rest by referee Mills Lane who took 3 points from Cooney all told.. The rule is, you get 5 minutes rest if you need it from illegal blows.. Being Larry Holmes he took about 40 seconds.. He didn’t retaliate. He was not a low blow artist but he went on to win the fight inside the distance.. Duane Ford and Dave Moretti, 2 of the most corrupt judges in the history of Boxing, would have had Cooney ahead if it weren't for Mills taking 3 points.
