Those additional seconds Wilder got at the beginning of rd. 8 were critical because he was rubber legged on queer street...and we know that the powers that be in boxing didn't want their Wilder cash cow to lose because they were counting on making big money with a Joshua-Wilder fight.
Boxing is so corrupt, and in the USA nowadays they are right in your face about it. They don't even care. Boxing has always been the domain of shady characters, but at least in the past the shady characters had the discretion to stay in the shadows and lend boxing at least the outward appearance of being a legitimate sport

No at the start of the round, like in that fight. I saw it several times before. In a few wars I remember the start being delayed while both get checked. I never took any note because the times I saw it was before any of this nonsense.

Except it is not justifiable. He can't stop the fight right in the middle of the action like that and give the house fighter time to recuperate. He could have called off the fight and said that Wilder is unfit to continue, that's all.
There's a million cases like this in crooked boxing. People gripe for five minutes and then it's swept under the rug and you hear no more about it.

ya, and notice how it gets distorted to make it seem like right in the middle of the action wilder got saved. it was between rounds the doctor checked on him a bit. ortiz had the round to finish him and he couldnt. wilder has been hurt a few times before as a pro but always come back to win. he can recoup. its one of his strengths
its a joke that this thread was bumped yet again, just a strange level of soreness. get over it. its obvious some ppl wanted to see wilder kod and just cant get over the fact that he won yet again.
and instead of gaining respect for wilder, they look for ways to discredit things so they can stay fixed on hating him

what sounds about 11 is thinking that wilder was saved by his face shield beard and the got saved again by a quick inspection. fact is ortiz tried his best and didnt have enough. he got dropped 3x and stopped. wilder got dropped no times and won
move on and try giving some respect, the same respect youd give wilder if he were a russian or ukranian.

You keep going on about "face shields". Are you insane? Then ignoring the salient (that means important) points raised and trying to make ad hominem attacks (that means trying to attack your debate adversary rather than addressing the issues) and trying to atribute motives (that means why somebody does something) of your own, instead of addressing (that means talking about) the issues (that means what we've been talking about) - such as: "if he were a russian or ukrainian". Like it says in the video, Wilder wasn't even cut. There was absolutely no excuse for stopping the fight except to give him time to recover!!!

At least with a standing 8 count they counted it as knockdown on the scorecard. With this latest nonsense the ring doctor (let's see his medical degree!) and the clown dressed up in the referee costume (let's see his referee degree!) just intervene to give the house favored fighter a medical examination (open wide and say ahhh) whenever they feel like it, just in case he gets in trouble.

They’ve been gone nearly twenty years but occasionally a ref has done it. I can see why they got rid of it, it is a strange thing to do. If you’re worried a fighter is getting hurt he should be stopped, giving him a break is a weird advantage and imagine if he then chins the guy with the next shot you’ve effectively handed him the fight. Then there’s iffy times like Froch-Bute it kind of looks like a standing 8 count but the ref deemed the ropes had kept him up and gave him a mandatory 8 count like Povetkin got against Price, but people assumed it was a standing 8 count.
There really needs to be universal rules across all belts at this point, it’s strange that some bouts still have different rules like the three knockdown rule for instance. We had four Pacquiao Marquez fights that with a different title on the line could have been a one round blow out with no point in a rematch.

You really don't think about the standing eight count being gone due to mandatory 8 count. IMO. It's a stupid thing the standing 8 count. For amateur boxing only.
