I also take Monzon over Leonard. What I don’t get is people picking Carlos over Marvin. I was too young to see Monzon live. But I do have an extensive fight collection and I believe I have everything from Benvenutti on. Not doubting his ability or his HOF credentials. He is big and strong with long arms. But he almost looks mechanical to me. I am not saying in a three fight series he doesn’t win one but Marvin looks much more fluid and adaptable. I certainly don’t think he ko’s Marvin. Like I have said before being there to witness something can change a perspective. So maybe this is the case. I know Briscoe gave him troubles so I think Hagler beats him.

Which is just the way Monzon would like it...…..no one loved a fight like Monzon…...and he would win solidly on points. I'm not sure he ever really thought that a KO was the point, what he longed for was a full 15 rounds of "sharpening the saw". Monzon would beat Hagler, and he didn't have as much problem with some of these fighters as is insinuated here. In retrospect, anyone who still had some fight left in them upon the last bell with Monzon, gets a lot of credit, deservedly so. But Monzon never lost his cool, and ALWAYS did what it took to let his opponent know he had beaten them. Briscoe did not take exception to the loss. He knew what took place between them was not ambiguous.

Leonard was a very great talent. But, the media and the public adulation has him way up there like a god. With that, he could manipulate everything about his fights: make a larger ring. Don't give a rematch if I win. Get a rematch as fast as you can if he loses. Get thumbless gloves. Everything was "his way" or no way. I understand, he was the cash cow like Ali. Other fighters didn't had that LUXURY. You dig?
