but the dude pulled out at the last minute(actually 40 mintes before the fight was to start) and Tomashek was instantly available. Tim Tomashek has been refered to by some boxing historians as
"The Strangest World Heavyweight Challenger Ever".
after this fight Morrison was scheduled to fight (then unbeaten) Frans Botha in October



but in October instead of Botha Morrison fought Michael Bentt

Tomashek is portrayed has having been a spectator pulled out of the crowd to fight Morrison. But I thought I read somewhere along the line that the promoter had an inkling that Williams might pull out and had Tomashek on site ready to fill in just in case he did. Can anyone corroborate this?

You are correct. Tomashek being pulled out of the crowd at the last minute is another of those boxing myths that never dies.

Tommy Morrison looked like he suddenly got angry there in round 4 and tried to put Tomashek away in it.
Did he say something to Morrison to make him angry ?
( also Morrison walked straight into a left at 13:57 when Tomashek was back up on his feet-a portend to the punch Bentt would throw)
I'm not a lip-reader but after Morrison goes to Tomashek's corner to congradulate hilm,Tomashek says something
and when Morrison turns around he appears to say "F*CK IT " (?)

Following the Purity fight. Morrison was scheduled to fight Herbie Hide in Hong Kong October 1994 for the
WBO HW Championship,

but the fight was cancelled at the last minute and Morrison filed a lawsuit against Top Rank and Bob Arum and was out of the ring for 6 and half months.He came back in February 1995 to fight Ken Merritt aired on the USA Tuesday Night Fights.
The thing I noticed in his comeback 6 and half months later was that his apperance seemed to have changed some,noticably he was sporting a Count Zaroff type bead and wearing different type of trunks..
( but the video has been removed).

Herbie Hide would have knocked Morrison out. Hide had tremendous one punch power and Michael Bentt proved Morrison could be taken apart with speed and accuracy.

has anyone seen video footage of Tommy Morrison training in Hong Kong ?
I wonder how many weeks he and the other fighters had arrived there before the fight was to take place.
I get the feeling it was around this time that Morrison's real troubles began
I also think Morrison would have taken out Hide,in the same manner he took out Ken Merritt
5 months later.he would have jumped on Hide with a fusilage of lefts and rights.

You can't just look on paper and who beat whom sh*t, unless you can think and analize. By such logic McCall should win Holyfied and Tyson.

Hide beat a brain damaged version of Bentt that Morrison also would have beaten. I don't think you can compare Morrison and Hide's records, really. Morrison came off the floor to knock out tough guys, won plenty of times in hairy circumstances. What's Herbie's record in overcoming adversity? He suffered a 'fainting' KD against Riddick Bowe. Has anyone ever seen any other fight do that? He lost his title being KOd clean by a jab. Has that happened to any other champion in any weight division any time in history? He was KOd by Danny Williams in sparring with head guards and big gloves. He even got destroyed at the age of 30 by Joe Chingangu! And he would cry like a little girl when he lost.

Morrison was way too much for Herbie, regardless of the Bentt anomaly.

I'm not looking at it just on paper. I'm talking about their form around the time of the proposed fight. Riddick Bowe said that Hide hit him harder than anyone else, Morrison had a very vulnerable chin.

Not only do you take all of that as fact, but you also assume that Morrison fought a totally different boxer than the one Hide faced. Just face it, Morrison got his arsed kicked and Hide didn't.

What is your excuse for Morrison being floored twice by Ross Purrity?
