Just watched Washington/Nofire. Much more aggressive Washington under his new trainer, Shadeed Suluki. I hope we see this for the Kownacki fight. Could turn out to be a good watch. Washington got a late start and obviously has room to improve, but one never knows.
For anyone who wants to watch the full fight:
or just highlights:
Breazelle makes a pretty good commentator.
Nice to know he has something to look forward to once he retires

For a guy that started boxing so late, Washington is pretty decent. Natural athlete of course, but he is also well drilled in the basics.
One wonders how he would be if he started boxing in his teens.

i recall reading that he started training as a kid but had very few actual am fights (14) because he focused on football, 14 defo isnt ideal

I never knew that. I thought he started later.

I actually thought he was first lacing up gloves in his mid-twenties. That's a lot more boxing he had than I had thought. It shows in his movement and smoothness, but he still isn't comfortable getting thrown at.

I think there is a chance that Kownacki could become a surprise heavyweight champ. He beat Szpilka far more convincingly than did Wilder before the KO. Szpilka had been beating Wilder before he got caught. They say he set the record for heavyweight punches landed in a single round in that one.

well on the other hand he also had way way more problems with charles martin then aj did. and iago kiladze sent him to the hospital. and szpilkas always been a vulnerable fighter, one who got dropped 3-4 times by mike mollo
kownackis just too open and isnt on the same talent level as the top guys

Washington has a nice jab. Should keep him in the fight for a bit. Kow should win based on youth and activity

I don't think it would have made any difference. It's not lack of ability or experience holding him back, he is not blessed with that indomitable will to win that a top fighter needs.
In my opinion obviously

That's how I see it. He's a good fighter but nothing special and I don't see him climbing much higher.

Seen that time and again with Ex-Footballers in boxing. Looks a lot easier on the telly, boxing does. Best strategy until you get hit in the mouth.

Yeah damn body-armour wearing nancy boys what do you expect?
I'm just kidding. I would never call into question the mental or physical toughness of those who pick up the football and run with it, whatever variation of the rules governs the game., My comments about Washington are aimed solely at him.

Understood. Just mentioning the difficult transition other ex-footballers have shared with Washington. Seth Mitchell comes to mind. Learned his lesson from Jon Banks and then Chris Arreola.

I think he could beat Wilder. He totally devestated Szpilka and Szpilka was beating Wilder before he got caught. If Szpilka could beat Wilder than Kow could beat him. Szpilka gets caught because he does stupid things like trying to taunt his oponent by holding his hands down - and then getting KOd for his trouble. I forgot if he did anything stupid before the Wilder KO. We'll see how he looks against Washington. If he looks like he did against Szpilka than i double what i just said.

OK. If he looks sensational in this fight and then against someone like Whyte or Parker or Brezeale he'll be on tap for a title fight, both him and his big baby friend, who i also think has a chance to be a champ, tho admittedly the odds will be against them both.

Not sure what he'd prove fighting Parker or Breazeale. Parker needs to rebuild, and I already rate Kownacki higher than Breazeale. Whyte is already pretty much a big contender that doesn't need to fight Kownacki.
Kownacki/Miller is probably the ideal next fight for both men, but I doubt it'd happen.

Both Kownacki and Miller said it would not happen. What he'd prove by fighting a fairly top contender - because the very top contenders are looking for a big money fight with a champ and wouldn't care to take an unnecessary risk - is a series of sensational KOs a la Szpilka would propel him into the limelight. Yes, you're right about Whyte now being one of the top contenders looking for a champ to fight, not K. But there are others who will do.
