I thought Oscar Dela Hoya beat Mayweather by couple rounds in their fight.

The only heavyweight through history that could Cause problems/beat Tyson fury would of been Lenox Lewis but still believe fury would find a way to beat him. Too big, too much movement, speed & elusive.

If Froch didn’t have a freakishly great chin, and could punch a bit with it, he would be lucky to be a decent domestic level fighter and is bang average imo

What problems did he cause ?
The knockdown ? It’s a fight, you can’t have a shower and not get wet, your gonna get hit, that’s not a problem.

A problem is something to have to navigate and change and adapt to be able to win or overcome imo, any man who’s trained and fit and throwing meaningful punches at you can drop you, again I wouldn’t class that has a problem or being caused S problem.

Lewis could box, was big, and strong, and technically sound in all departments with a great pedigree, chin and probably best all round with size ability etc to be able to cause real problems for Fury imo, unlike anyone else

Sorry bud, but if you’re trying to win a boxing match and someone absolutely sparks you, that’s a problem.

Lol It is a problem then if you don’t get up, but he did and always does, so again its only imo but that’s not a problem being dropped or taking a punch.

Looks like I’ve hit the nail on the head with the name of the thread, this opinion is unpopular :D

I don’t normally do posts like that, but I feel the point of the thread was to cause controversy so I thought I’d let you know. It’s all good though we’re all bored aren’t we?

But just to double down, losing two rounds 10-8 and getting properly twatted to the deck by a puncher like Wilder is about as big a problem as you can get in a match without losing.

You’ve obviously never needed the toilet badly during a fight or sparring ? now that’s a problem mate :OhYes:
And I suppose yes it’s has big a problem has you can get in a fight that’s going how that one was and when you’ve pissed every other second of the fight and it’s going so easy ;-)
I’m just having a but of fun and your right, I’m bored out my head, just trying to give unpopular opinions

I’ve had too much coffee before and had to stop sparring to shit, true story.

He didn’t “cause him problems” in the way you normally mean it.

I know mate, I’m watching old fights on YouTube and remembering when 3AM Sunday morning meant I would be watching a big fight in the USA

Ok back in subject: I’ve just watched FMJ Cd ODLH and Floyd won that fight. Oscar hit a LOT of arms and elbows and seems to have been given the benefit of the doubt

 :OhYes: 8rds to 4rds for Dela Hoya imo, outworked and outboxed.

It’s what makes the sport great, it’s subjective, everyone can watch the same match and no one will see it exactly the same for every bit, each will just pick what they particularly like and enjoy and what stands out for them, but for me Mayweather Did nothing to stand out in that bout at anytime to give him the win, where has Dela Hoya clearly outworkes him and is the aggressor with success

I agree with everything you said about boxing but you’re wrong about this fight. Floyd’s defence is too good, there’s too many shots which look aggressive or assertive from DLH but if you really score it by punches LANDED then I can’t see anything other than Mayweather

Seriously impressive performance but Spinks was never close to an elite level heavyweight and froze.
Spinks had an excellent short run at HW until he ran into prime Tyson, although yes he did freeze.
Spinks was a very good fighter but Homes had been slipping a bit when he fought him. It’s a good win for Tyson but I don’t think there’s a strong case to argue that Spinks was an elite heavyweight. Tyson’s prime was short and in that prime he didn’t end up facing an opponent who was of a level to legitimately cement any claim to being a generation spanning to heavyweight. Mikes reputation far outweighs his in ring achievements

I'm not sure I'd go as far as calling it excellent. Holmes was arguably on the slide and they were both close fights, Tangstad was Euro level at best and Cooney had been inactive.
That first fight wasn't close at all. The second one was very close, though clear for Larry, he won the first 8 rounds. Odd the narrative on the first fight changing through the years. At the time of the fight, Larry was the only person I heard that thought he won the fightt.

He is underrated at heavy if you look at all the love Tunney gets for beating the lesser Dempsey.
I just think to call Spinks HW career 'excellent' based on two wins over a fading Holmes (one quite controversial) and two other 'meh' wins is a stretch.

Maybe not an unpopular opinion, I'm not sure, but I think Ricky Hatton pissed away what could have been an even more successful career with his excessive food and alcohol consumption as part of his "man of the people" routine.

I wonder how much of his training regime was wasted on getting him back into shape when he could have been using that time developing his boxing skills.

Yeah that's pretty much a given I think, no fighter can live the party lifestyle and balloon up in weight for long, it will eventually catch up with you.

:TU: Totally agree!!! Once he won’ the title from Zoo there were long gaps between fights and he would get so out of shape drinking in the pub he would spend the camp losing so much weight it had to weaken him and this would be the main focus, not tactics... Having said that he didn’t do badly...
Don't get get me wrong I don't think he would ever have beaten Floyd or Pac but there were loads of winnable big fights out there for him at 140/147.
