"I am interested in boxing and like to watch it."

Seems a pretty unpopular opinion these days, unless someone off YouTube is involved.

Morales v Barrera 1 WASN’T a robbery.

I had it 115-112 MAB but so many close rounds 114-113 either way you can’t complain.

The 115-112 to el Terrible get in the bin though.

If it’s 113-114 x3 either I think is just about okay.

Shall I get my ass ready for someone to fornicate me for that opinion? :TU:

Muhammad Ali was not the greatest and he was not a hero and he was a horrible human being who believed in segregation.

Loma is ridiculously overrated.
Conor Benn will win a world title.
So will Eubank.

hardcore british fans tend to have a bias against british boxers. perhaps from getting tired of being fed overhype by cheerleader commentators and promoters, and thus wanting them to eat their words/ shut the hell up

agree on benn, i've been saying that for a couple years. think eubank's running out of time and ambition though

johnny fisher looks pretty dumpy so far

I noticed that among hardcore fans of many countries.

Black boxers with exceptions are overall better than white boxers.

There are generic everyday blokes who could beat a decent level pro boxer in a pub carpark fight.

What you mean??

Eubank is already a two-time world champion.

Tick box!

Oh and the WBA ‘interim’ champion. :box:

Bang on, boi.

It’s getting even worse these days, too. For example I would love watching Lauren Price get smoked; not because of her but because of the shite. And this is before she’s ever even done her first pro ringwalk.

Getting there with Benn and I can see the same happening with Dalton Smith; I can’t see Hearn putting him in a test anytime soon… but will continue the “best prospect in the world, one of the biggest young talents I’ve ever had” rhetoric for an eternity.

Another unpopular opinion I have. Kariss isn’t gay but been bullied by Price to be a couple.

Nah. Kariss wears the trousers in their relationship.

I agree but your forgetting something. There are Too many called governing bodies. I say so called because they are businesses. When I wrote about boxing I never called them world title fights. It was always the WBC,WBA or IBF title. Because that is what they are.

I'm not saying anyone can become a world champion but there are so many versions the odds are good. If you have the money you can find a vacant title and certainly find a willing opponent. A good matchmaker will always find the right opponent. Believe me even Jake Paul will become a world champ in 3 years

I hate the fact that skills don't really matter inside the boxing world. The top guys are the top guys for decades, simply because they rarely fight. It's very likely that they are not the best boxers at all, but just once made that name and simply avoid all other top contenders unless they have a really really high age or other completely unfair advantages over him/her.
It's more like a popularity contest, a political contest or a way of bribing yourself into the top. Lennox Lewis, Deontay Wilder, Alexander Usyk, are examples of that, Good in politics, or popularity contests, or fight picking, but not actually good in the ring, they just receive the chances and avoid risky fights unless extremely well paid and refs in your advantage that's all.

This is the reason why I love to support the underdogs in boxing, because they are the only ones who receive a chance to take someone from a place he/she doesn't deserve and handle the spot over to a real boxer. Also, I hate guys like Chris Arreola, who allows himself to be hit nonstop by someone he likes and then, when completely unexpectedly he has a fair chance of winning because his opponent broke his hand, he simply stops? Surrenders while sitting on a chair beïng completely fine the moment he heard it?! That's not boxing, that's corruption.
Now that is a very unpopular opinion.

Lightsoot wrote: 15 Jun 2022, 08:39 The thread title is self explanatory, but is intended to confess your (more controversial) opinions on boxing / boxers which you’ve possibly kept to yourself, until now…

I’ll start off with a couple of my own.

1. I want women’s boxing to go to 3 minute rounds so that a) more women get knocked out which might lead to be b) more exciting fights and / or c) less womens fights televised because viewers find women getting knocked out as unsavoury,

2. Mike Costello is completely overrated as a commentator. He’s not even the best commentator on DAZN.

3. Prince Naseem was a total let down who quit the first time he got shown his arse. He’s not fit to be fondly remembered, never should be in the Hall of Fame and should have received more stick for retiring.

Over to you.
Great post, and I'm in agreement with all your 3

I've been reflecting on all these bad/corrupt judges.
How bout we get rid of them. If you're the Challenger you have to knock the Champ out. If you don't, the Champ retains the belt. No judges required.

Like Mike Tyson, Naz could have been a GOAT if money and family/relationships didn't get in the way. Crime we never saw Naz in more big fights like Morales and maybe even Mayweather.
