boxing history section is a bunch of guys who like to be collectively miserable about how boxing from the 2000s on suck, so lack of responses doesnt surprise me

one dude there even said that usyk's cruiser legacy (undisputed champ, 7-0 in title defense) doesnt match that of james toney's (1-0 in title fights, no unfication, 1 win over a top 10 opponent), because usyk didnt have enough bouts vs '10 round ffighters' like toney did against dudes like michal rush and jason robinson

Usyk is the undisputed world’s champion of all of boxing. There is nothing subjective about it. He has done it before our eyes v a giant of a man in the best shape of his career, fighting at the top of his game.

Usyk is The Man.
he dared to take risks and be great when his back was against the wall :TU:

Canelo is close but not better than Loma, I think from the ones mentioned are Floyd and Inoue. Maybe Hopkins.

Maggie give us your 2000 top five!
I actually made a thread about this recently in the Boxing History section, but very few people responded. I guess that section of the forum doesn't get a lot of looks.

But yeah. Since 2000, I'd have the Top 10 like this.

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
2. Manny Pacquiao
3. Bernard Hopkins
4. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez
5. Oleksandr Usyk
6. Terence Crawford
7. Andre Ward
8. Juan Manuel Marquez
9. Gennady Golovkin
10. Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez

Lomachenko in fairness to him is certainly not far behind this list. If he were to defeat Tank or Shakur Stevenson, he'd definitely have to enter into the list then. Probably ahead of Golovkin.
With the results of today's bout in mind. Usyk if he were to retire off of this fight would surely now go down as no lower than 3, and possibly as high as #2. If he defeats Fury again, and racks up another title defense or 2, I could see an argument for making him #1.

But Usyk's achievements have been incredible for sure.
Usyk is #1 now, for me. There is no man he has EVER avoided. There is no place he will not go to prove himself.

Manny comes close. FMJ does not.

I've noticed. I on the other hand have been maybe too excited about the 2000s boxing recently, especially 2020s. That's why I had Bivol on my list but yeah, maybe he don't belong there... :bag:

While the Toney example is  I would say the opposite is also true. Plenty of younger commenters act like the sport they are commenting on was invented in 2000s. Most often within 48-72 hours of a fight, match, final etc. Lots of "greatest ever" comments right after events happen, although in fairness, they might just be drunk

Oleksandr Usyk - The World’s Champion Boxer and ATG.

Why am I not getting any younger? :maybe:

Usyks accomplishments this millennium are incredible.
But it will take quite a bit to reach what Floyd and Manny did for far longer.
At this moment I'd have Usyk behind Floyd Manny, Canelo and Hopkins for sure.

I think his achievements match Canelo and Hopkins at this point or at least you can argue that they do, and it's not unreasonable.

I'd agree Floyd and Manny he hasn't quite matched, and at his age I don't see how he could really. It doesn't help that he's already beaten the biggest name there is to fight.

I suppose if Usyk retired for like 3 years, and then came back, and beat whoever was the new face of Heavyweight Boxing at the age of 40, but I mean...yeah it'd take something insane like that really to raise his profile any higher.

I will say this for him though. There is no fighter in Boxing history with less than 25 fights who's ever accomplished more.

Usyk belongs in any P4P argument now, not at the very top, only because of how short his career was, but he's done everything that could have been asked of any fighter to prove his greatness.

What really sealed it, was the manner of his victory over Fury, round 7, he looked hurt, and both physically and tactically outmatched, by a far bigger man, who seemed to have sussed him out. Usyk did what Ray Leonard did before him against Hearns, and went and flipped the script, turning aggressor on the man considered the bigger puncher, and flattened him.

Without the knockdown, it would have been split draw, it was enough to carry him over the line, that's greatness right there.

2000 to 2003 Roy still looked good. But he was the fighter of the 90's
I do not rate him high this century

Yeah
Since 2000 he's not Top 10.

He might squeak into the Top 20 or 30, but even that I'm not sure of.

In the 90's he was one of the very best in the sport, and at his best he's one of the most naturally talented fighters ever.

Should've retired after MD over Tarver.

It's easy to say in retrospect that a guy should've called it a career before he ever lost, but if every fighter thought like that we'd miss out on a lot of fights we want to see.
