Well, that sounds like a cock up. Part of the problem is a case like that I would have thought, is that there is no one individual to pin the crime on.
I can assure you, if you were in a fight one on one, and you hit someone hard enough to require brain surgery, there's a very good chance you're going to jail.
If they were given suspended sentences, chances are they are in jail by now anyhow, suspended becomes a jail term if you commit another crime during the term of the suspension.
Attempted murder is hard to prove, but that would certainly be GBH, with intent you can get life imprisonment as a maximum sentence.

Sentencing in this country is an utter joke, due to the lack of prison space.
There is no real detterent for criminals any more, asbo's and tags are to keep people out of crowded prisons, and are pretty much useless........
Somehow the fear of god (or a damn good kicking) needs to be put into these little yob bastards.

West Ham's New Signing
Alan Curbishley flies to Baghdad to watch a young Iraqi play Football and is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over to play.
Two weeks later the Hammers are 4-0 down to Derby with only 20 minutes left. The manager gives the young Iraqi striker the nod and on he goes.
The lad is a sensation - scores 5 goals in 20 minutes and wins the game for West Ham! The fans are delighted, the players and coaches are delighted and the media love the new star.
When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in English football.
"Hello mum, guess what?" he says in an Iraqi accent. "I played for 20 minutes today, we were 4-0 down but I scored 5 and we won. Everybody loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me."
" Wonderful," says his mum, "Let me tell you about my day.
Your father got shot in the street and robbed, your sister and I were ambushed, gang raped and beaten and your brother has joined a gang of looters, and all while you were having such great time."
The young lad is very upset, "What can I say mum, but I'm so sorry."
"Sorry?!!! Sorry?!!!" says his mum, "It's your fookin fault we moved to London in the first place!"

Yes that was the problem. So they all got away almost completely free.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, that sounds like a cock up. Part of the problem is a case like that I would have thought, is that there is no one individual to pin the crime on.
The fact that our legal system even allows that to happen is a farce.
Agreed that they are probably all in prison now anyway, it's a shame it probably had to happen to someone else before they did get sent down though....
We need some USA style prisons, so that its an actual deterrent. Feed them shit food, give the wardens/officers god-like powers and get them doing some chain-gang activities. Mind you with the state of our judicial system the prisoners would probably end up sueing (and beating) the state for mental anguish or some other bollocks
Well, maybe not Leeds - they're German, not stupid, after all - but I'm sure you get my point.mickeybeard wrote:Keep in mind that when you travel to a new place, you're almost bound to like it. I mean, you're on feckin' holiday for a start, so the lack of work and the Hotel Sex (assuming you're away with your missus) is going to make you pretty well disposed to the place.
There's probably German BBSs out there full of posts likeDonner und Blitzen! Berlin iss full of der tosserhoffens! I vill emigrate to Leeds! Schnell!

Been to Leeds recently?
I wholeheartedly agree. I'm all for Human Rights, but we need to incorporate some common sense into it as well, because the law seems to protect the criminals from injustices rather than the victims.Terry D wrote:The only problem is that tough prisons debase people and it leads to gangs like the South African Numbers gangs or White Neo-Nazi gangs form communities inside and crime networks that they bring into play on the outside. It is a Catch-22 on a lot of the sides as we have gone too far down the liberal road.
I'm all for a liberal policies in some areas, but we also need to have hardline stances in other areas

Son, you are a slacker. You'll do nothing and you will go nowhere.Four trips abroad this year will be enough for me right now Carlos.
As mentioned you need to give it up and can the talking about it, I've told you I won't come and live with you in Korea so you need to stop stalking me and making yourself look like a yobbish type. Move out of your mums, leave the call centre and enjoy Korea, I hope your grasp of English exceeds your ability to read figures when making a rant thread.
Manchester is good for boxing and that is another big reason for liking the city here. If you like live fights and quality sparring you are in boxing heaven here.
Plus there are things I want to see here in Manchester before I leave.
What in Manchester have you not seen in your 30 years of living there?
Doing a second MA is not a bright thing to do, it is a total waste of your time and your money. But it is your choice. I know in ten years time we'll come back and take notes of what we have done. You will still be in Manchester, probably in the same house, on the dole.
Stalk you? Listen, I have seen your photo and I was that way inclined, you would need to wash your hair, have a bath and have a shave. You look like shaggy off scooby doo so just STFU and if you want me to lend you some money so you can buy some soap and a set of razors and a comb just letme know Terence, your girlfriend (if you have got one) would appreciate it and you would more likely get meaningful employment.

Why anyone would want to ape the American penal or judicial system is utterly beyond me, it's not done America much good has it?Terry D wrote:The only problem is that tough prisons debase people and it leads to gangs like the South African Numbers gangs or White Neo-Nazi gangs form communities inside and crime networks that they bring into play on the outside. As Terry says, their prisons utterly dehumanise people, and when they return from incarceration they are utterly unfit to re-enter society.
Also, in the states they'll fling you in jail merely for being in possession of controlled drugs. Get caught with weed a few times, and the next thing you know your bunking with someone called Bubba who has the name of all his former 'girlfriends' tattooed on his arm.

Using a child as an excuse on why you have no testicular fortitude - shame! why can't you watch her grow from afar and come back to see her? Thats what lots of people do. Having a niece or a nephew doesn't stop people from living their lives. If you don't want to leave Manchester then fair enough but don't use the child of one of your siblings as the reason. What do I want to see in Manchester? Erm, my niece getting older. No shame in that Carlos.
You are around 30 - whatever, not getting any younger and still haven't left his hometown. Thats fact. I tell you what, lets stick with fact from now on.I'm also not thirty as mentioned but seeing as you are numerically challenged to the point that you cannot even get the figures right on this thread topic I'll let that one fly.
In ten years you will be back at your mums and answering phones so it will as you were. That's why you stop chavs on the bus so you can lord it over them and tell the millionth person that you are going to Korea to teach English despite the fact that your behaviour on here shows that in terms of wit, intelligence and sophisticated knowledge you are the run of mill chav in denial.
Going at the end of the month son, I think you are mistaking my future for yours. Listen I would have no problem in anwsering phones because it is a job and there is no shame in work. I have been a soldier, emptied bins, worked on a door, done regular night turn. Its no big deal but it would be for you because you are a fecking layabaout who has never done a decent days graft in his life. Its OK though, you carry on being the eternal schoolboy, studying for the most useless subejct known to man thinking it will get you somewhere and in 10 years from now and you jaw will be dropping open when every job you apply for will say 'too old mr Dooley and too many useless qualifications.. next!'
I left home at 17 to join the army, when did you leave home? when have you ever left Manchester? save the 4 tours of BeirutYou then talk about your riot activities and that is it, your BA is the bits of that philosophy left over so your conversation is nil and void, you just go home and get a pat on the had of mother (who is letting you go to Korea safe in the knowledge you will be living at home again within five years). Just do it (go to Korea). I've sorted out my plans.
I have never talked about my BA on here, you wouldn't know what it is except it is 100 times more useful than facking philosophy.
You are still smarting over the Anthony Small music thread aren't you?So you're not stalking me? You just memorise my personal details, address me relentlessly, become agitated when I tell you I don't want to move to Korea with you and look at my photo on the web. I only reply to you because as long as you are at your PC in your mums house you are not striding into my workplace wearing a white navy suit, with tented groin area, whilst playing 'Love lifts us up where we belong' and holding a wedding ring.
Listen this thread was put up without your consent and invitation for you to participate. You came on here and I quote...
Yes I like Islam, you might not. Fair enough
Three months ago is a lifetime in internet debate Terry, get over it son!
I did remember the '4 tours of beiruit' crap you were trying to sell us and had to me mentioned. Can you put it behin you and move on?
Your workplace? Harrasing strangers in Deansgate and saying
'Can yoh lend me a quid mate, I need to gerr 'ome to Glossop goooo ooon man!'
Is not work, ITS BEGGING you layabout. I'm sure I saw your unwashed, unkempt, scruffy profile harrasing the gentlefolk of Manchester on their way to work.
You need a bath, a shave and a haircut. The lot will cost a tenner tops! I'll lend you some cash Terence, I know giros don't go far these days.I'm not in love, so just forget it and be a big boy, try not to cry.
He's bound to be feeble minded if he is a mate of yours. Shall we do a recap of some of what you have said on this thread? You're a young guy and pretty feeble-minded so you will be Ok. My mate is 110% slacker. Could not get out of call centres (not knocking them, some people rake money in from those places) and his mums post-Uni so he did the only thing left open to him. He teaches English abroad and is coming home later this year as he feels there is no long-term to it.
I hope to move abroad to a place like Germany or Madrid
A sentence later, same post
I'm giving learning Arabic a bash on and off but would try and learn the lingo so I can mix with the local people rather than spending thirty years shouting at them in English.
Learning Arabic so you can speak to the locals of Madrid?
Look, we had a spat, you are not verbally adroit
Ever hear me speak.... ummmm... lets think Terry?
Hopefully my girlfriend will be learning how to drive ASAP
Nearly 30 and you can't drive? You are going to get your girlfriend to learn first?
You really aren't as bright as you think, in fact you are quite useless. I hope your niece appreciates your lack of testicular fortitude when she is older!

Have I ever called you a tosser in the 7 years we have spoke

If Britains yob culture drives nobheads like Carlos out of the country then every cloud does have a silver lining :
Personally I'd never emigrate, because all my friends and family are here, why would I want to be on the otherside of the world on my tod? Britain's got its faults, but it remains the greatest country on the Planet. RULE BRITANIA!!

Well, not per se, I've never actually met you Carlos, but we've certainly spoken many times over the years, always quite civily I thought. I was just a little alarmed to find that I seemed to belong to a club of people marked out for your derision, based on the fact that I don't drive.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Does it really matter to you what my opinions are?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Carlos, I'm 36 and don't drive, so I guess I'm a useless tosser too then?

However, I suspect this feeling is reserved for Terry, I don't have a problem with either of you, and am getting quite a lot of mileage from this long running spat.
I do wish the two of you could just 'shake and make up' but I suspect it's long past that stage now.

Because you have one life and you know and I know it is an excuse not to leave. Do you not think your niece would be mortified if you cited her in the reason not to see the world if that is what you wanted to doWatch her grow from afar? She is not an urban development programme. She is flesh and blood, mine. She is my sole niece, why should I miss out on her?
Think about it, no shame in staying in Manchester, stop using your siblings kids as the reason.
You are a bit iffy about your age and I couldn't give a toss how old you areI'm not around thirty either, below is below Carlos.
you are around 30, approaching 30, nearly 30. You pick - you ain a kid anymore.
Good for you!I laboured on sites and in bars to get through college and did menial work through Uni. I also answered phones and it was not for me, I got that right though eh?
I doubt it son, your degree is a complete and total waste of time. You know it and I know it. If you had anything about you, you would do your Phd and progress with your academic work but you seem to think 2 MAsLeft home at 17 also to provide space for my siblings as they grew into their teens. Your BA is a degradation of my subject.
will do the job when all it will do is expose you as a layabout happy in a comfot zone.
When you left home, where did you go? to the shed at the bottom of the garden?
Read what you wrote again. Explain the joke part to it, I can't see it myselfYou then ramble on this way and that. Nothing worth answering really. You are unable to fathom that I made a joke and think I credit military service to myself and no one else does.
So you don't know if I'm verbally adroit or not? Learn the meaning of words before you use them. No, I have not heard you speak but if it anything like your writing I would have a hard time making out a word you say.
See, I don't think anything of you either way, this is just an online debate that you could remove yourself forthwith if you so chose. You could be a nice guy but you are barely able to control yourself and reign yourself in on here and that reflects sadly on you but you might mature given time.
To paraphrase Ratzo Rizzo 'no one is forcing you reply to me, I mean whose forcing ya?'
No use to you at all if you are planning to move to Spain or Germany,Arabic will be a nice grammatical start and learning one language helps you pick other languages up quicker so I'll stick to it.
you are best of learning the languages of those countries. Arabic is of no use to you in Spain - seriously.
Goo advie for yourself I reckon? what do you think?Good luck in Korea Carlos, just count to ten and you might actually be Ok over there. I am from a military family and my cousins have good grace and the ability to let bygones be bygones as they took the right approach to the military and used it to become rounded individuals, many stayed in for over a decade and came out as decent sorts.
Like now you mean! You are not even able to contribute to your own thread any longer
