Holmes v Mercer - a great, old fighter defying his age.

I would like to call out whoever it was who said Mercer was robbed. I distinctly remember reading such a comment very recently on this board. Please justify!
I never heard Mercer complain. RING GENERALSHIP! look it up.

- I said Holmes didn't beat Mercer, not even close. Not a robbery because Mercer was more interested in acting like a lazy thug. He POed the judges.

He almost broke Holmes' neck after choking him out. He was lazy though, and more interested in trapping him in the corner and then slapping him with little taps. Holmes was feisty, but he spent most of the time illegally grabbing the ropes which he started doing late in his title days as his legs went, and backed to the ropes. Mercer could've imposed his considerable strength advantage over Holmes, but probably wasn't in first rate shape and chose to coast.

At any rate, it was the only significant bout Holmes won in his comeback. He was literally the 250lb weakling of the division.

I disagree with you on the point that Holmes did not win. I think he did what he had to do, which was psyche out a complacent and out of shape Ray Mercer, who ended up eating right hands all night and did not have a clue what to do when Holmes stayed on the ropes waited for Mercer to come in. I think Holmes was in better physical shape than Mercer.

Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym MD12 Satoshi Hosono, from last Monday.

Absolute war, with the younger Japanese fighter stupidly meeting the Thai in the trenches. Poonsawat begins to dominate down the stretch, even switching to a boxing-moving style (a bit like a poor man's young Julio Cesar Chavez, when he thought he'd broken you down enough inside to step outside & potshot at you to lure you in). Very entertaining fight.

Then it was Wilfredo Gomez TKO 14 Lupe Pintor. Unbelievable. Gets better every time I watch it.

Yeah, he was one of those not-even sneaky fvckers that really annoy me, like Cotto. If you're gonna stick the elbow in at least make an attempt to disguise it, FFS. Also, Gomez was wilting from left hooks to the bottom of the lat/floating rib area a half-dozen times, & managed to get four or five called low, when they landed about six inches north of the border!

I, too have the nasty habit of offering fighters advice from my TV screen. When Hearns starts to wilt versus Leonard, you should hear me; girlfriend gives me some funny looks, I tells ya.

The way Pintor & Gomez put it to one another is just insane, though.

Famechon vs Harada II.

Great fight, really thought Famechon really stepped up a level from their first bout. Peppered Harada with a great jab from the outside, doubling/tripling it up. Any attempt of Harada to clinch and wrestle him, was met by constant uppercuts.

I watched the Carbajal v Gonzalez 3 and the undercard, what a terrific card that was. I was so impressed with Lopez he was brilliant his movement and combinations were breathtaking but Varguez's heart, chin and bravery was esquisite

Haven't got to watch too many 'new' bouts as of late since my cable is off, but during Christmas eve and day, I watched College Boxing over at my mother and father's; Teddy Atlas was doing commentary. Some of them were decent, but imho, alot of them fought more aggressive like pro boxers rather than amateurs who are supposed to win on points.

Yes very good fight and a good performance by both men, Andries landed some really big shots but Harding was just so relentless
