Re: Lee Beard
think he was a amateur trainer, he was over in america with mayweather, people speak highly of him, he took matt hatton on the pads and it all went from there, mayweather trains his son this is just what im told !
Re: Lee Beard
From what little have read on the internet, he appears to be an amateur trainer from salford who took over a gym at 27 when the owner died. He's now 33.
I beleive he boxed as an amateur and has done karate or some other martial art.
His 18 yr old step son Adrian Gonzalez, who is 3-0 as a pro (debut on Hatton Mallignaggi undercard) is based out in Las Vegas and Lee went out there and his kid trained at Mayweathers gym. He watched and learnt a tremendous deal from Mayweather over 4 years and the two had similar ideas about boxing and Mayweather has helped shape him as a coach.
When Gonzalez moved to the UK Beard needed a place for him to train and took him to Grahams gym, I guess the Hattons saw his pad work and he offered to do some for the brothers as Ricky was preparing for Lazacano. His links with Mayweather Sr lead to the two being put in touch.
I like what I have seen of Beard so far and I assume the Hattons will try and use him as a trainer to develop their promotional talent.

Re: Lee Beard
He had a martial arts background and played Conference standard football for Northwich Victoria but suffered an injury and packed up. He worked with amateur boxers and got to know the Hattons when his stepson was doing some training there. Took the kid up to train on Xmas Day before the Urango fight and did some work with Matthew Hatton that day.
Re: Lee Beard
Cheers lads... just out of interest.
Re: Lee Beard
He seems a bit media-shy and more interested in doing a proper job on the training side of things.
I think the lion's share of the training for the Malignaggi fight was done by Lee, with Floyd adding the finishing touches.

Re: Lee Beard
Marley was trying to rip him a new one on Boxing whatever it was.com. Tried to riducule him by asking just who he had trained and just how many champs he'd worked with pre Hatton.
