Nose Bleed question

Hi folks.

My son is in training for his first amateur fight in around 6 weeks time. he is in the army and at the moment things are going great in training.

He has never fought before but progressing well in the gym.

My question is regarding nose bleeds, he is sparring but he gets nose bleeds, im sure this is because he has never been hit in the face as many times before.

Has anyone got any tips regarding nose bleeds, (and not the tip dont get hit), or will it pass in time??

What is the amateur rule in a fight if you get a nose bleed??

If its persistent then it he will most likly get stopped in a fight

it just happens, I used to get nose bleeds when I was about 17, none before that or after, only when I was 17....
but if it happens when he is boxing, during the bout, the ref will look at it and clean, and then decide anything further.

will the nose become more robust after a while though, and become stronger so bleeds do not happen as much??

I have a mate who boxed from a boy had a bout a dozen senior fights, he's 30 now, he came to my gym about a year ago and I swear he ducked a right hand and his nose started bleeding - he said its always been the same.

Your nose will bleed more as a novice but as time goes on the cartelidge hardens up the the problem will get better.
I think it is too early to cortizone it but if he continues to the seniors and it is still a prob it would be def worth considering it

2 grand could get that sorted. Cauterise it, no more nose bleeds. Danny Harding had it done a few years ago.

wouldnt the NHS or the army do it for free? i got mine done when i was 10

mimmy, I had the same problem when I first started after almost 20 year hiatus but it went away after consistent bashing. But it took a while. Over 10 sessions. But I have a big nose so the number of sessions may be tiered on size.

However, I still sneeze when I get hit in the nose. If anyone knows of a cure for that (apart from stop getting hit in the nose), let me know. Ta

nose bleeds are a twat you cant breath and in the amateurs your likely to get stopped he will have to get it caurtirsed, get the army to do it, tel him not to worry or panick and tel him to expect it, that way he wont shit his pants. good luck to him :

No point having it done before he has even had a fight though, give him a couple of seasons to see if the sport is for him, maybe by that time his cartiledge will have hardened up anyway, then consider it at that point if it is still a problem

the military medical services will sort it for him, he needs to report sick and ask for an ENT referral, when he sees the ENT consultant he then requests a 'SMD' (sub-mucous diathermy) as he keeps getting nosebleeds, he stands more chance of getting the surgery if he says the nosebleeds are spontaneous and that he does not mention the boxing. the operation is a simple one and involves general anaesthetic, and electric cautery to vessels in his nasal mucosa. this may help the problem.

if it doesnt its not the end of the road, the likes of esham pickering have noses that bleed at the drop of a hat, and he managed to carve out a decent career despite the problem.

its nothing to do with the cartlidge getting harder etc....what may happen in the futurs is that his nose becomes more squashed as he gets hit on it more and more, this means less movement of the tissues inside the nose each time he gets hit, therefore less chance of trauma happening.

rhino is right, but if his unit MO is an arse or its not Boxing unit/regt he risks getting screwed over, mate of mine played rugby 7's for Wales had trick knee and went to see MO who got referal for operation, soon as its done he's back playing rugby but gets downgraded so while we're sorting balkan states, pacifying Iraqis and fighting the war on terror he's sitting in AFCO with career in tatters. If the CO is cool with boxing then no problems.

to be honest when was younger my nose would go all the time but it wouldn't nesseraly stop the fight but as I have got older an into the pros it takes a really big hit for it to go my advise would be try your hardest if it happens don't let it bother you just carry on an try not to get hit ha ha but to be honest I don't think there's many ways around it I've had friends had the operation an it has not worked carl dilks

Nopse bleeds happen, because the blood vessels are so close to the surface in the nose.Some people simply get more nose bleeds than others.So, in effect, it looks much worse than it actually is.

Some trainers advocate sniffing salt water as a way of preventing nosebleeds.
