Problems viewing BoxRec using Netscape 7.1?

Post by Pie »

Hey guys,

I just upgraded Netscape from 7.0something to 7.1, the newest version. But now the records in BoxRec are unreadable; the records for boxers are always pushed WAY over to the right side of the screen, with just a sliver visible. And the bottom scroll bar doesn't extend far enough to make the records visible.
All other sub-pages appear perfectly (schedule, seach windows, etc.), but the records are not viewable.
And, of course, the problem doesn't exist at all in IE 6.0.
So is this a simple coding problem that can be fixed to make the records viewable in the new Netscape 7.1? or am I stuck with having to ue IE for BoxRec now?

Otherwise, thanks as always for a job well done.

Not me  ,it's a bug in Mozilla, the Netscape engine, see :-

Thanks for the response...if it's fixable with a quick re-size of the window, I guess that's good enough. A bit inconvenient, but at this point it's a grudge match beween my girlfriend and I - she insists that I should give up on Netscape and use IE exclusively, and I'm resisting. So I'm willing to do what it takes to keep using Netscape, no matter the inconvenience.

Well, we likely wouldn't be having this discussion if it wasn't for Microsoft, who has largely made possible what we're doing. Let's not overlook that. Besides, the playful disagreement between my mate and I isn't so much about any disagreement I have with Microsoft, as it is my relative loyalty to the Netscape line of products that were among my first introductions to the 'net....and me being tired of her always being right. That's a big factor, too.

Nope, nothing here to do with micr$oft, boxrec was written using :-

the Linux operating system http://www.linux.org (the server is actually running Redhat but I now think I should have gone with Suse)

the Vim editor http://www.vim.org

the php scripting language http://www.php.net (all the online stuff)

the mysql database http://www.mysql.com

the perl language http://www.cpan.org (all the offline housekeeping)

The only thing micro$oft contributed were bugs in their poxy browsers which gave me headaches and slowed the development of the site.

No, I didn't mean Microsoft was responsible for BoxRec in particular, just, the explosive growth of the associated industries - personal-computing, internet technologies, etc. If Bill Gates hadn't done everything he did, somebody else might have and probably would have. But they didn't because he did, and he did because nobody else did. And that's why he's the richest man in the world and that's why everybody tapping on a keyboard owes him (and MS) some small debt of thanks.
Anyway, the window-resizing cure is good enough, I suppose...

Both ways it's a speculative argument but I am fimly convinced that Bill Gates is a great businessman but a very poor software engineer. If IBM had given the PC OS contract to a more technically competent company then the growth of the PC and subsequently the internet would have been even faster and much, much better. For example the Apple OS was way ahead of M$ but they were wrongly focused on the hardware and lost out.
