Floyd snr speaks!

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t done trash-talking.

Only this time, the trainer also known for his bravado, had nasty things to say against Ricky Hatton and his assistant trainer Lee Beard as well.

Mayweather said Hatton, whom he trained, has no one else to blame but himself and Beard for his devastating loss to Manny Pacquiao.

The outspoken trainer, who called Freddie Roach a “joke coach,” told 8countnews.com that Hatton “training on the side” with Beard was the culprit.

The report said Mayweather claimed that Beard kept on giving Hatton additional training sessions. This may have caused some confusion on the boxer’s part.

“You got to listen to your corner, simple as that. And like I said once before there was turmoil in the camp,” Mayweather told 8countnews.com.

Mayweather, who also called Pacquiao an amateur fighter, said the infighting in the Hatton camp in the days leading to the fight was to blame.

Not him. Not his style.

“It showed up in the fight. Not because of me. It showed in the fight because he had another person training him when I wasn’t around and sometimes when I was around,” he said.

“He (Beard) guided Ricky in the wrong way.”

Again, despite the one-sided victory that had Pacquiao flooring Hatton thrice in two rounds, he took a shot at the Filipino icon by saying he doesn’t stand a chance at Floyd Mayweather Jr. if and when they fight.

“I don’t think Manny Pacquiao is a good fighter,” he said.

What about Roach?

“Do I think Freddie Roach is a good trainer? No,” he told 8countnews.com.

Whether it’s true or false, word got out during fight week that Hatton was disappointed with Mayweather showing up late for some training sessions.

It was even written that “Floyd showed up in round seven on the final day of sparring. On fight night he showed up as Ricky was getting his bandages on! That speaks volumes. Lee doesn’t have an ego. Mayweather’s is the size of Vegas.”

It seems that Mayweather is no longer interested in training Hatton if the British brawler does return to the ring.

At the post-fight press conference, he said “a fighter who suffers that kind of a knockout may never be the same again.”

Gareth Williams, chief executive of Hatton Promotions, told the UK press that Hatton and Mayweather haven’t spoken to each other after the fight.

“No, they haven’t (spoken) and that’s very disappointing. It does make you question the motives of people and why they were working [with Ricky]. When I’d left Las Vegas there’d been no contact at all, which is disappointing,” Williams said.

“Things are leaking out. It’s fair to say there were things in the training camp which weren’t right. Knowing Ricky as I know him, and his dad, that’s the last thing they would want. The last thing they would try to do is point fingers at other people.

“Rick made a mistake and got caught. I think to a large extent he was let down by people around him,” he added. “But we’re not going to start making excuses or trying to divert blame because that’s not the way we are.”
If that's the truth then it seems Floyd's position as Head Trainer was disrespected!

Pathetic getting Mayweather as the trainer in the first place.

No matter what, I am sure hatton was going to be knocked out no matter who trained him.

Myweather was pushed to the side by the sounds of it.

Mayweather may be an arse, but he was Ricky's arse.

Doubt it,

Ricky was working Southpaw ads with Lee beard in the UK and by the sounds of it Beard was also training Hatton after Mayweathers sessions.

I did notice at the end of the first in the corner, Ricky wasn't paying attention to Floyd and everytime Beard spoke he would turn his head to listen.

That may be so and I can believe Floyd Mayweather Snr on that side of things - but to slag Pacman and Freddie Roach - thats where Floyd Snr lets himself down.

i dont thing he was listening to anyone because he looked like deer caught in the headlights and completely bewildered
Exactly! He was shellshocked from that first round.

The whole thing was going to end in tears anyway(although I didn't expect the end so quickly).

Did anyone notice after Rickys first round against Pacman, Mayweather was giving Ricky advice in the corner and Ricky kept looking over to Lee Beard (and away from from Floyd) who was also chipping in with advice

i think hattons confidence was crumbling in the lead up to the fight to call on emergency training from a p.e teacher.
he hired snr because he wanted to know how jnr was so good, what they done diffrent in training.
hatton built this fight up really ramped it up,& was allready talking on a mw return, the defeat that has seemed to scold him somewhat,& to me he became abit incensed to the fact manny was favourite & tipped largelly to stop him,i think this defenetly upset him especially on the big stage & it was like de ja vu.
hatton is too blame,he sacked his coach & hired a guy that slagged him off once he claimed his fighter.

Floyd should have been turning up on time for training and some of his comments about Roach and Pac are completely absurd but Ricky Hatton has only himself to blame. I honestly think he bought into all the talk going around that he was "too strong at the weight" for pac and that pacman couldn't hurt him, he went steamrolling in completely disregarding his defence, and he found out that this opinion was rubbish the hard way.

I'm sure Floyd passed on many tips to Hatton but whether he chose to listen and take them on board is another matter. The point someone made about Hatton ignoring Floyd Snr and looking at Beard in between the 1st and 2nd round is very interesting.

Lazcano should have taught Ricky that he's not got the chin anymore to repeat what he did in the Tszyu fight.

Whenever I hear a fighter talk about being too strong at the weight for his opponent I get flashbacks to Steve Robinson prior to his fight with Naz... :KO:

On the basis on what exactly? Hatton got caught coming in against Lazcano - he got buzzed, hardly a premonition of what Pacquiao was about to serve up. It really riles to when people say, admittedly, mostly American or Hatton haters, things like Hatton was one punch away from being stopped and that he was rocked to his boots. I disagree, Hatton was buzzed twice in that fight and came back strong as hell when he was. He wasn't hurt at all I don't think. And for further proof on that, look at the times Hatton has really been hurt, Magee, Collazo, Mayweather and Pacquiao - there's a massive difference in the way Hatton reacts. Against Lazcano, he went straight back to work, whereas against those other three, he looked as if he was in massive trouble, which he was.

I agree that Hatton tried to fight the same way as he did with Tszyu, but Kostya and Pacquiao are completely different. Surely Hatton and his team would've realised that Hatton would've caught two or three shots everytime he tried to attack.

Lee Beard is a good bloke - yep he has struck lucky in that he has been in the corner of one of the world's best known boxers - but for f*ck sake I do not think the bloke deserves a slating in anyway whatsoever - from what I saw of him both in Manchester and Vegas a couple of years ago, he knew what he was doing.

Give the bloke a break.

Is Lee Beard equipped to handle a fighter who is facing a P4P elite fighter?

That's the only question that needs to be answered.

Which trainers are DG - there are very few who can say they have experience and surely whatever you do in life - if you want to improve you have to touch your toes in the deep end!!!

I say that Hatton should be with a trainer who is proven at the elite level.

Hatton is at the tail end of his career and should not be the guinea pig for an unproven trainer, but I wish Beard al the best.

Even Mccracken ( who is a good trainer) would need assistance in the corner if he were facing a Hopkins with Froch, imo.

Sorry DG - got to disagree - McCracken is top drawer - as long as the trainer can teach the technical aspects of the sport to a boxer and the boxer is capable of taking on board what he is being coached I do not see what the problem is.

There are very very few "world class" trainers in my view - and all of them have had that vital lucky break to get them there - many trainers only train domestic class boxers - very very few indeed are lucky enough to state they have trained a world champion!!

Thus my thoughts are - why not give Lee Beard a break - he seriously does not deserve the flack he has got!!

I agree McCracken is a very good trainer, but a Roach who knows the inside track on B-HoP would be a great asset, its Frochs career and Hattons so they need to give themselves the best chance possible.

For every fighter bar Hopkins I think Mccracken would do the job on his own.

Beard? Not good enough when you are fighting Pacman, imo.

If Beard had PBF in his corner then he would be ok, but he has Hatton, Hatton needed all the help he could get to deal with Pacman, but having said that, Hatton was getting stopped regardless.
