Looking through some Boxing News articles on Dennis Avoth I ran across this.
Avoth's record shows him fighting Charlie Wilson (ID 39373) on 2/27/68. The March 8th, 1968 Boxing News notes this fight for Avoth as being against Charlie White. The article says Charlie White of Northampton. The only Charlie White heavyweight I see listed in BoxRec for that time period is Charlie White, ID 29709 from Loughborough, Leicestershire. So at first I was not sure of this Charlie White. Reading on then about Avoth in a later articles in the December 6, 1968 and January 31, 1969 issues of the Boxing News record two more fights for Avoth agains thei Charlie White. The December 6th article for the 11/27/68 fight says this Charlie White is from Leicester. The 1/31/69 article on the 1/23/69 fight makes mention that this is the 4th meeting between these two fighters. It also for some reason places White as from Northampton?
Anyhow it would appear from these Boxing News articles that the current record for Avoth showing him fighting Charlie Wilson(ID 39373) on 2/27/68 should in fact be Charlie White (ID 29709). Making this change of course delete 1 win from Wilson's record and add 1 win to White's record.
Is there something with the regions in the UK how they refer to where White is from differently in these different articles? Why sometimes refer to White as from Northampton?

Re: Dennis Avoth ID 22438
The opponent was indeed Charlie White. The pair met for a 5th time in January 1970.
White may have been announced as being from Northampton for any number of reasons. That initial meeting was in Northampton so he may well have been announced as coming from there to secure the support of the locals. British boxers are still sometimes announced as coming from different locations at different shows, sometimes their hometown is used, sometimes the town in which their gym is based and occasionally, when the Master of ceremonies has little solid information to hand, whatever he is told by ringsiders. It usually firms up after a couple of fights.
Regards.
