Marvin Camel

Post by Norm »

Its hard to find much info about Montana native Marvin Camel, but a recent interview from KULR in Billings is posted on the youtube web site. The clip includes some footage from his 1983 bout against Rocky Sekorski. Just search "Marvin Camel" on youtube and its easily found.

Camel became the first crowned cruiserweight champion of the newly designated division in 1980 by outpointing Mate Parlov. Anyway, this video is a chance to see and hear the all-too-obscure boxer who made history for Native Americans and Montana proud. He now resides just outside of Orlando, FL.

As a native of Montana, I followed the boxing career of Marvin Camel while he was active. After his boxing career, Camel was trying to make a living as a gardener in the Los Angeles area about twenty years ago. I wonder what he is doing in the vicinity of Orlando.

His message on youtube says he's been working at Circuit City the past 17 yr. That job ended in March when the stores closed.

If the information is true, Marvin Camel appears to have done fairly well if he can hold down a job at the same company for seventeen years. Hope that he has found a new job.
