what british promoter bills do you look forward to the most

Post by jspain »

i know there was abit of this in another thread but i thought it desereved its own thread.

which british promoters bills do you generally look forward to the most? in terms of match making and/or tv content etc. i know the tv content is not to do with the promoter but it does effect how we enjoy the show on tv at least.

fw , maloney , hayemaker , hennessey are the four big ones.

i really like the hennessey and hayemaker bills when they are on. big reason is they are given proper time on the channel. no skipping rounds between the fights that they advertise. i will be like a broken record here but it really annoyed me when sky skipped rounds during the sykes and crolla fight the other week. it was a domestic fight of the year candidate and yet we did not see the whole lot of it.

in terms of matchmaking they all put on good bouts alot of the time. other times there does be alot of filler fights. hennessey and hayemaker have smaller stables and dont put on shows as often as fw and maloney. id say they can be all much the same in this respect. the one thing that annoys me is africans and the commonwealth situation. i suppose we get annoyed when we see an experienced pro have a backwards fight. then again we dont know if there would have been anyone better available. i suppose its impossible for any promoter to get the best or most suitable opponent all of the time. in saying that do we be too hard on promoters some of the time?

It depends on the size of the show. FW's Friday night ones have been terrible, but they do the best big shows, the only ones with 3-4 big fights.
Maloney used to have the best matched undercards, but they have been poor this year. Hayemaker are quite good, Hennessy has good top of the bills, but some weak undercards. Hayemaker has had some good shows and are usually ambitious with their matchmaking. Matchroom are poor, apart from Prizefighter.

none at the moment, for the price you pay to go and watch boxing now its a joke, and 95% of the time you already no the result. To be honest starting to get bored of boxing. So many good fights out there but you know most of the time they will not happen.

I don't really look forward to anything now, I'm just glad when something happens to go ahead as planned.

right now it's just hennessy for me. obviously i got rid of sports channels and so can only watch hennessy cards. i believe talents like murray and barker & find froch bloody exciting, too exciting at times if i'm being honest.

warren's shows all seem too cautious and not competitive despite having some good talents like kell brook, tony bellew. the friday fight night star seems to be cleverly, who only has power vs "african hardmen".

i do miss the jamie moore and sutherland maloney stuff, but i want to see moore in something big.

i remember matchroom putting on some great fights late 90s early 00s featuring brodie, and the fringe world title round robin featuring wayne rigby, colin dunne, michael ayers. some amazing fights happened.

when was the last really good show by matchroom? not really sold on prize fighter as it allows class fighters to get beaten and seems a bit tight for the losers.

I like Maloney's bills, not always the biggest fights around - but they seem to be evenly contested most of the time, and there's usually a local guy on the bill. The crowds at Maloney bills are absolutely mental.

Dazzer,
You could have posted that in 1999, 1989 etc.
The old gits around here will tell you that nothing has changed in reality.
And you'll still attend ........

Hennessy Sports seem to consistantly be the better shows.
