Subject: register of interest

Although I would like to register my interest in the proposed ESPN offering, my real interest is in the boxing output currently/previously broadcast by Setanta Sports. I and many of my boxing fan peers are hoping that as entrants to the UK market, ESPN will look at and if possible replicate / hire Setanta’s output and talent.

Setanta’s boxing coverage has been consistently excellent for the last 2 to 3 years. They have had partnerships in place with a number of top promoters both overseas and in the UK. These included links with Top Rank (Bob Arum’s stable including Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquai) and Hayemaker (David Haye).

A key element of the experience for UK boxing fans has been the presentational output led by Steve Bunce and his ‘Bunce’s boxing Hour’, which was recently nominated for a ‘broadcast digital’ award (http://www.broadcastdigitalawards.co.uk/shortlist.htm). It would be a great shame if this format and team is lost. The main sport and in particular boxing fan internet forums in the UK (spam, boxrec.com) regularly highlight what an excellent job they do

Features which make boxing broadcasting attractive:

1. Targets young male demographic key to advertisers
2. Complements audience of other sports
3. US shows can be purchased for secondary UK market as one off payment without the production costs involved in filming/ site fees etc. Commentary is included in the international market sale by the host promoter so incremental costs are limited to local studio. Setanta have followed this model very effectively with the team of Steve Bunce and Andy Kerr.

I hope you will consider taking on some or all of Setanta’s existing boxing team and output.

I’d be happy to give any other feedback if it would be of any use

Yours sincerely

Mark, my mate works for Vic at the moment so I'm trying the Sky angle to give it a bit more oompf.

I'm gonna get Law and Terry on the case too with their contacts.

I've had no response from Chad Dawson.

I've asked Shaggy to run a story on BS and will get him to spread the word to the Promoters too.

When I get home tonight I'll add the contact emails for all TV stations that BIGMARK has provided so that we whore them around as much as possible.

Nothing might happen, but too many times we sit on forums and moan about things without doing anything about it. Bout time we got off our fat asses and did something about it!

Sent a story, only had fifteen minutes to do it, but could not send the link alone as that may not run. Go easy on me if it does appear and the grammar is not polished, but the link will be there :TU:

Edit: Article up http://www.BS.com/?m=show&id=20638 link attached.

Trying to launch this UK side of things over there, but need more contributors, anyone got an opinion piece on this/future of British boxing/anything British boxing related please send to [email protected] as we try to pick up the slack left by BBN disappearing.

If we cannot watch fights we can at least read about them!
Terry, very good piece on Setanta, I will ask Longcount if he can create page that links all publicity created to highlight the Bunce Boxing Hour campaign.

Couple of points on the piece. Quigley is British super-middleweight champ, it's the English Premier League, not the UK Premiership.

While the Bunce show was always good, I wouldn't put him and Kerr up as some sort of crusaders for the sport. Kerr is a football man first handed to the show who brought little more than enthusiam. Quality wise, the show didn't come close to the Radio 5 boxing show with Bunce and Mike Costello, which tackles bigger issues much better.

Considering Terry knocked that up in seconds because I didn't have the time, I think he's done brilliantly. Thanks again mate.

Aye, Quigley mistake was mine, I know he is the SMW champ as I did a news blast on him not defending last week but the mistake slipped in this time. Was typing up an interview (interviewee was talking light-heavyweights, so that is my excuses) when asked if I'd put something out with the link on it. Cheers, will be vigilant, I literally had a few minutes to do it, but no excuses, that one aside :TU:

Kerr was pretty good at interjecting and pulling the big man in when he went a bit too far.
It wasn't meant as a criticism. That's the joy of online, gives you the chance to correct it. :TU:

I've seen Emersons "contact emails" before, and I'm not convinced they'll help this cause  :DD

Anyway, signed up and invited most of the boxing contingent in my part of the world to join :TU: Will crack on with some emails tomorrow and start annoying TV execs 8) :DD

All forums have got to try and unite and show the level of support for Boxing and in particular Steve Bunce and Andy Kerr from The Boxing Hour. It was a refreshing adult show giving honest, often unpolished but always interesting news and reviews.
Andy Kerr isn't a football man he's a boxing fan too. He's also a qualified Ring Announcer and the support is for him too.

The show was a breath of fresh air and there are thousands of loyal boxing fans who want it back.

I've spread the word about ESB's Longcount website in progress bringbackbunce.net in some of my local North East gyms and urge anyone still active in their local pro gyms (and amateur)toask around and drum up support and visit thewebsitr and petition.
Honestly guys, if we don't act I can't see a show as honest and entertaining happening again. :box:

we should get buncey back on tv, sooner rather than later,

maybe ITV or BBc should do something and it dont always needs to be boxing.

he is funny in his own way

I'm gonna try and ask Lillis and Mr Lewis if they can put something into a newspaper. Long shot but don't ask don't get.

Will also ask Danny if they can run something in BN.

For a man with so much to say, you always write so little in posts!

Any updates you have Bunce would be appreciated, as you have found out there are many a boxing fan in deep depression with the current events.

Good work guys. It's easy to moan, much harder to be proactive and try to change things. Hope it gets the desired result.

Buncey for Mayor! Quality!

Boris is one of the few people who could give Buncey a run for his money on the inappropriate comments on TV stakes. :box:
