Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
I didn't see this fight, only the result but Ortiz was being billed as a stellar, De La Hoya style figure by well...De La Hoya's crowd. He then lost by KO to the man beaten by Kotelnik. Given Ortiz's extremely shaky chin and Maidana's punching power, was this such a huge surprise?
It looked a risky assigment from the start.

Sounds like a classic!

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
I hope Maidana makes some waves. Inexperience may have cost him against Maidana. I agree, it always did seem like it was going to be a great fight.
140-pounds is pretty drab so Maidana can add some colour. He has earned his next world title shot.
If Khan beats Kotelnik, Khan has to face Maidana.
I can't wait to see how Khan, Warren, the PR and the media morons SQUIRM their way around avoiding that fight.

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Maidana the hero of the hour. Dents Golden Boy in their seemingly futile bit to BUILD a world champion.
Maidana has WBA title shot next:
"Kotelnik we know. Khan...just isn't very good."

by vacating the title and saying kahn is really a lightweight
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
caffrey - you might have hit the nail on the head
khan wins the title , vacates it , goes back to lightweight
if he does indeed do the above , then i think all boxing fans will abandon khan as he is still running away from prescott

makes you wonder why WBA will give him a shot if a) he's just going to vacate and b) there already were guys like maidana, ortiz and saliyta high up in rankings.
obviously, khan is worth a lot to warren, but there's some big guns in terms of promoters like (parallel) universum and golden girl
frank "deal breaker" warren! the best in the bidness! but he didn't see that toothache coming
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Never been smitten with Victor. Had he not been America I doubt he would've gotten the hype that he did.
I do wonder whether he's struggled at the weight.

You're right though. He was a hype job and they protected his chin for as long as they could. With that in mind, fair play for them taking the Maidana match though. Brave matchmaking or stupidity?
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Im uploading this video as we speak - apparently it was a great fight.

I saw the Fight Live as i knew it'd be something special
It was an AMAZING FIGHT
Ortiz did more harm to his career in his post fight interview than any deemed idea that he quit.
Anyway all BOXING FANS have to see this Fight ASAP

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Lol. I just think he's another limited American hype job (see Kirkland, Angulo, Julio). They teach them how to hit hard and never how to box safely.steve689 wrote:Gotten?! If Ortiz was English Current Scene would be calling him a fraud.
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Yes ORTIZ was the guy that everyone talked about would splatter KHAN (he was beaten by Khan as an amateur)Lol. I just think he's another limited American hype job (see Kirkland, Angulo, Julio). They teach them how to hit hard and never how to box safely.

That talk has gone Silent now :)
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
He still would splatter Khan if he clocks him, a shame everyone is talking about Ortiz being "exposed" rather praising Maidana.exittored wrote:Yes ORTIZ was the guy that everyone talked about would splatter KHAN (he was beaten by Khan as an amateur)Lol. Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Well any Boxer with power has a chance to KO Khan in theory if they hit him flush but the beating that Ortiz took last night was a Career ending one and may never be the same again! He still would splatter Khan if he clocks him, a shame everyone is talking about Ortiz being "exposed" rather praising Maidana.
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Didnt see the fight but from what i heard Ortiz had Maidana hurt and vise-virsa a number of times i think Maidana would KO Khan as well imo
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
I guess this makes Kotelnik`s win over him quite impressive now.
Maidana is a noted puncher, I`d guess he could do that to almost anybody in the division, though with Khan having stopped Ortiz as an amateur you`d have to question his chin that little bit .. not as questionable as khan fragile whiskers though I will add.
Ortiz v Khan ... Ortiz everytime.

I read somewhere that he won by a "RSC" in round two of their fight but this was years ago when they were both still kids.lirva wrote:Didn't know Khan stopped Ortiz in the amateurstonyevs wrote:I guess this makes Kotelnik`s win over him quite impressive now.

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Ortiz blatantly quit. I thought Maidana beat Kotelnik as well, btw. At the very least he deserved a draw. Kotelnik is a very tough fighter to beat though (he definitely deserved the decision against Witter & apparently against M'Baye too), so there's certainly no shame in a disputed loss against him IN GERMANY.
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
He did't stop him by KO, it was a points gap I think I read in an interview with Ortiz.banjo wrote:I read somewhere that he won by a "RSC" in round two of their fight but this was years ago when they were both still kids.lirva wrote:Didn't know Khan stopped Ortiz in the amateurstonyevs wrote:I guess this makes Kotelnik`s win over him quite impressive now.

Edit: Saw the fight last night and thought Ortiz fought very wrecklessly, which made for a fantastic fight but he didn't do himself any favours.

Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Fight video HERE lads
Re: Ortiz-Maidana **SPOILER**
Would love to see Maidana v Ricardo Torres.
Torres has come off yet another wild war. Following the slugfest with Cotto & 2 controversial fights with Holt, he was in a crazy up and downer with Raul Pinzon.
