Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
Thanks again to the rankings guru for all his hard work. I'm getting a lot of positive feedback for his efforts. As usually, if you have questions or comments, feel free to post or contact me. Kudos are also welcomed also. I for one, appreciate his dedication:

Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
The rankings are interesting. My son's name is spelled Jordan Shimmell. Two m's in the last name. I still think Donovan Dennis should be ranked.
Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
How is Michael Bissett ranked so high. He lost to Kisner last year and didn't even make it to the NGG and USA Nationals this year. I believe he lost in one or both of the regional tournaments to Javonta Charles so he shouldn't be ranked ahead of Charles.
Another one is Darlington Agha. He didn't box in either the NGG or USA's so how is he ranked so hight?

In what world does this man exist where Eric Deleon should be ranked above Caferro? Can anyone explain that logic, please? ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
In the UK as that is where Michael Smith resides. I think his rankings are fun to read and make people talk about the sport. Get people talking about amateur boxing! If you have a problem with something in his rankings, make a suggestion and be able to back it up with proof. He may change his rankings the following month based upon some of the feedback.
If anyone has turned pro, inform Michael Smith with proof and he will delete them from the rankings the following month. He is taking on a huge undertaking and I applaud his efforts.

whats pan am mean?
Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
It means something that relates to all of the Americas - North, South and Central. It includes the Caribbean Islands as well.kidneypunch wrote:whats pan am mean?
The Pan Am Games include boxers from those areas and the Pan Am Rankings cover those same geographic areas.

Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
From Michael: De Leon is listed higher based on the Golden Gloves where Caferro lost to Amir Iman who in turn lost to De Leon.I am aware that Caferros loss to Iman was narrowly reversed in the Nationals but he needs to beat De Leon to be considered number one.Kolya wrote:In what world does this man exist where Eric Deleon should be ranked above Caferro? Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
From Michael: On inherent ability both Agha and Michael are top ten boxers. In the 2008 nationals Bissett lost in the final to Graziano and defeated Paul Koon on the way to the final while Darlington lost in the semis to eventual winner Lenroy Thompson.Donovan Dennis lost to Koon in the same championships.Dennis wrote:How is Michael Bissett ranked so high. However the question of activity is a valid query and they (with other boxers) are being monitored and will be dropped in a month or two if still inactive.I am trying to avoid the situation where I dropped Frankie Gomez for inactivity and a month later had to reinstall him at number one both in the World Youth and the USA section

Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
That is true for the USA Boxing rankings. They were supposed to be coming out after the USA National Championships, but the turnover at USAB has delayed them. Since they don't really matter much, it isn't a top priority. In the meantime, we have Michael Smith's rankings to discuss and they get updated monthly which is great.kidneypunch wrote:i heard that the rankings reset every year

Re: Michael Smith's July Rankings Released
I feel Claudio Marrero should be ranked higher then he is. He has both beaten and lost to Yankiel Leon this year. However, in the most recent international tournament hosted in Venezuela, the Batalla de Carabobo, he recieved gold, a tournament which Yankiel Leon saw an early exit at the hands of Marrero's Dominican teammate Juan Carlos Payano.
