Amir Khan - TV & Promotional Deal!!!!

Post by Spud »

I am going to get straight to the point - there have been hints etc etc on here that Amir's contract with Mr W arren maybe due for re-negoitiation or renewal.

First of all can anyone stipulate the truth in this matter?

I ask as I have seen on facebook someone making out that he is Amir - stating that he does not know who his next opponent is as TV and promotional aspects have to be discussed - yes yes I fully understand that there are many people who are a tadge ill in the head making out they are various people from the sporting and entertainment world and in reality they are a nobody!!!

Does anyone have any info on Amir??

I can only say what I hear Spud, and I understand after the last fight the contract was up for renewal.
Last I heard was that negotiations concluded with Khan back on PPV via Wazza / Sky for 4 more dates.
Apologies if I'm off the mark, but like I say I can only say what I hear.

To be honest I think Mr W arren has done a very good job for Khan - and I think he should stay with him.

but with this wish of Khan wanting to go to America - I heard there were a couple of American promoters extremely interested.

other than the progress made in the last 3 fights, was it a great job?

with khan's name recognition, why isn't he a superstar?

dropped by limond and gomez - great job!

perhaps freddie roach did a great job with amir khan? ok that means warren did an indirectly great job by getting roach.

Hang on wasn't Khan being watched by about 5 million people when he was boxing on ITV?

Now he's being watched by about 30,000 people in a half empty arena?

Khan surely cannot be better off now?

I cannot believe I am going to do this - but yep I am going to stick up for Mr W arren here!!!

Whilst in a lot of cases I cannot stand him because of my perceptions on how I feel he has gone about things and in addition I do not like how the lawyers are brought in at the slightest little thing - just an opinion  but in the case of Khan I feel he has looked after him big time - yeah okay there might have been a contract tieing him - but lets face it in the lead up to the Prescott fight there were more doubts than positives about Khan and it seemed his professional career was going nowhere - then the bubble burst big time with that Prescott spark out.

What does "Mr W arren" do - pulled off a flaming masterstroke bringing in MAB - Khan despite the so called controversies surrounding the end of that fight - Khan boxed brilliantly and would of in my opinion stopped Barrera and couple of rounds later anyhow.

"Mr W arren" then gets hold of his pal Klaus-Peter Kohl and gets a fight with his fighter Kotelnik - suddenly Khan is a world champion and whilst he might be high profile in the UK in boxing terms when you take into consideration some of his domestic performances he has come from nowhere - and you simply have to give W arren credit for doing that and the way he has promoted Khan.

If Khan is at the end of his contract - you could argue - was Mr W arren "persuaded" to act fast in getting Khan a BIG fight to ths persuade Khan to sign another contract - if you look at Hatton's career - what happened after the KT fight - and similar thing has happened with Calzaghe

Whilst I fully accept and actually join in what I believe is sometimes fully justified criticisms of "Mr W arren" - answer me this forum - tell me what promoter Khan could do better under - because regardless of the fighter Khan goes in with he is going to have to be very cleverly matched due to the doubts concerning his chin - there is no person better than matching his fighters than Mr W arren - will the American promoters come in for him - word is they are already trying and do not think of the obvious in Golden Boy - word is Bob Arum is interested too - but I will repeat - will they do a better job than Mr W arren??

He has done a terribe job in that regard. Khan is not making Fwank any money if you ask me, so I fully expect Khan to be thrown to the wolves when the last fight of the Fwanky contract is up, unless of course Amir signs a new contract BEFORE he steps in the ring, the same stunt he allegedly pulled on Jooooeee calzzzzzzzagheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and Wrickkkkyyy Haaaaattttooooooonnnnnnn!!

Warren has done a very good job for Khan getting him to be world champ at the age of 22 and 3 fights after getting KO'd in a round is very good :TU:

Do you think the Americans may push Amir into tougher, more competetive matches than he would get if he sticks with SKY PPV? After all HBO may demand him go in with the big boys as opposed to padded mandatories like Salita (who I think will be next).

Steve - I honestly believe the time in Khan facing tougher opposition like a genuine world class Light Welterweight will be a lot shorter than if he stayed with Mr W arren. W arren in my opinion has done a superb job in rebuilding Khan's career after that prescott defeat.

The logic is pretty simple. Khan needs to be paid a s*itload amount of money per fight, the sort Warren can't pay him on his own terms. As a result, Warren has been forced to perhaps go against his own judgement and match Khan tougher than he'd have liked in order to scrape through the PPV quality control. Khan can't be paid without that PPV cash.

Matched great? Maybe. Khan's now a titleholder, when less than two years ago he looked finished. I'm inclined to believe it's a case of luck rather than judgement, but Khan's done the business. The fight with Barrera was a Warren masterstroke, I'll say that much. Although it does start to become a bit of a joke when you hear stories of Khan negotiating to fight Morales next.

dont know he should make you sick, maybe that might have been a dodgy Tikka Masala,
he won the title, how can he not be worthy??, and the money, sure its about the money, thats why guys go pro!!, no problemo there, if I had a dodgy chin, I would avoid punchers, so where is the problem,
Khan gets publicity, is a role model for many kids, (not all), and is great for the sport, I just dont get these guys that dont like him,

I suppose Eric it's because were all boxing fans and here we have this 'product' rammed down our throats, headlining boxing shows against bums.

I watched him headline at Nottingham Arena against Vitali Martynov - and the fight lasted 1.14 seconds.

To give Amir his due, it's not his fault he's being paid a fortune to headline against a joker.

It just angers me a little that our sport has lots of really hard working servants like Carl Froch and David Haye who haven't earned 20% of Khan's money or exposure despite thrilling boxing fans with blood & guts performances for genuine titles against legit opponents.

Khan therefore has become a figurehead for the focus of our mind's eye in that respect.

Like i said, nice guy, good skills etc but no way should we be shelling out £15 a time for him.

PS- judging by the half empty arena too, i think even Joe Public has wised up too. There was what? 5,000 there. You watch there will be 10,000 full house of genuine fans for Froch vs Dirrell on October 17th and a small army will go over for Haye.

I can understand the non paying out for PPV, but you still wanna watch the fight!!! thats the attraction of boxing.

Eric,

You are completely correct when you state Amir Khan won the title fair enough - I actually think its quite remarkable Amir Khan is the WBA Light Welterweight Champion of the World - however, that achievement I feel largely comes down to the negoitiation skills of Mr W arren and the excellent matchmaking and advice of Dean Powell. Whilst Khan has always been a fabulous offensive boxer its his defensive skills which seriously bring into question the longevity he will have as being one of the worlds leading boxers - despite my doubts - I think Khan will be around for a while longer and it would not surprise me at all if we see him relinquish titles here and there as the "clever" matchmaking continues.

With regards to him being liked - Ummm - I truly cannot stand the bloke and that comes down to purely my own personal opinion. One reason is concerning how I feel Oliver Harrison was treated and secondly a completely seperate manner concerning a "misunderstanding" about the presentation of some medals to soldiers (about 2/3 years ago).

On that issue we completely agree - however due to the withdrawl of certain TV channels - boxers are being severely hampered concerning being allowed to box because they are tied to contracts to promoters who once had TV deals. Promoters who are affected should either release the boxers from their contracts - or put on some non TV dates which many promoters are already doing!!!
