Good news on the boxing website Steve, with the demise of Setanta and ITV deciding to axe boxing from their schedule from the end of the year, this sounds fantastic!

Last nights show at Southport was excellent. EVERY fighter came in to really win and was one of the best small hall shows Ive ever been too.
Ricky Godding was class against an awkward southpaw, following this lad closely I think he's a very clever fighter (the lad on the sparring video with Khan).
Dilks won well, shame about Chris Johnson though, a fighter who I seen a number of times and comes accross as a good guy, got stopped in the 2nd I think.
The venue worked well too, well done steve wood.

It has to be said, too, well done to Geraint Harvey- his 6th win (and second stoppage win) in a 49 fight career. It's always good to see journeymen pick up a win (and reminds us that this is a sport, not an exhibition), and they always seem to really appreciate it.davidas wrote: shame about Chris Johnson though, a fighter who I seen a number of times and comes accross as a good guy, got stopped in the 2nd I think.

How did Stafford perform? I couldn't make it down, but spoke to a couple of lads i know that went, and they say he got a dodgy decision.davidas wrote:Last nights show at Southport was excellent. EVERY fighter came in to really win and was one of the best small hall shows Ive ever been too.

Yes I wouldnt take anything away from him, this was a rematch too and he just looked stronger than Chris. All the fighers certainly came to win and was a cracking show. The Stafford fight I wouldn't have liked to have ref'd or judged !!! . Both fighters went all out for it and some of the exchanges brought applause from the crowd to both fighters. I had it about even but both fighters had a case for the win, I didnt see a clear cut winner.

Great show Steve.
Thought Stafford was fortunate, good win for Harvey - but what about the Godding decision??!!
Great entertainment though, looking forward to your September shows.

what do you mean what about the godding decision? surely your not disputing the win!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: VIPBoxing News - including update on Steve Bunce!
Everyone has a different opinion about the fight - thought the margin of victory was.......let's just say, generous.
Good show though, can't dispute that!

Mike B ,
Thanks , I agree it was a very good small hall show .
Thought Rick looked class for most of his fight and was never in doubt about the win . I think the 59-56 points win was about right too , very close to stopping Darren but for the bell at the end of the 5th.
Regards,
STEVE WOOD

I thought he pretty much won every round bar the 1st. I think he's a class act and you can see him out think his opponents.
Mike, of course everyone is entitled to an opinion and Askew never stopped trying but I just think Rick outclassed him and some of the couter punching was perfect.
But I totally agree that the show itself was excellent. Those who questioned some of the match-ups believe me none of the fights were straight forward.

No doubting Rick's class though!
