Tony Doherty-Back from the Dead!!!!

Post by Rumpole »

I wondered what had happened to Tony, he has not fought since his win over Barry Jones on 22 March last year.

The last I heard he was planning to drop to Light Welter but I see he is back fighting again at Welterweight on the Joe Calzaghe bill at Newport Leisure Centre on the 21st of this month.

Anyone got any ideas about how far he is likely to go and at what weight?

There was a time when I thought that this kid could go a long way, but he just disappeared off the face of the earth and 18 months is a long time to be out of the ring even if he is only 24.

The Brook fight will never happen now, so he should be trying to get a shot at McIntyre.

Yep the lad has some ability but evidently got probalems out of the ring and unless he gets his head right and builds some momentum then his career isn't gona reach the level it could. I see him as potential british title challegner level at light-welter in particular, but it all depends on him I suppose.

Good luck to Kev.

Kell is certain to give up the British title after the Jennings fight and go for Euro or world titles, which will leave the domestic Welterweight scene wide open.

Who will be next? Kevin McIntyre, O'Donnell, Adnan Amar, Watson, Mat Hatton, Mark Thompson?

Should be a very interesting sort out in this division as I can't see any clear favourite.

cheers guys .,cant get a fight for love nor money just now.,..as soon as Odonnell won the comonwellthth i offered my services but was told i wasnt in there plans.. was ment to box watson on the last haymaker show (which fell through) only 2 be told he was then moving 2 lightwelter weight & i would need 2 weigh in at 10st 2lbs!

every BBBC meeting since my last victory which was back in feb. iv had a letter in asking 2 be considered for an eliminater but iv heard nothing.
im currently in talks about a promotion 2 be heald in paisley or glasgow for late sep /early oct which could be a fight with Gary Young which will be pretty tasty & a big ticket seller up here :D

so watch this space ..im in the gym & raring 2 go for the new season! :box:

Good point Dave2005.

I do expect Kell to win against Mike but one can't take anything for granted in this game and one has to acknowledge that Mike is a very experienced operator at all levels, not just at domestic level.

However, win, draw or lose, I would not expect to see Kell wanting to go over old ground now that he has the Lonsdale belt to keep.

But, all credit to him for wanting to prove himself to be the best Welter domestically, unlike some who go out of their way to dodge the top domestic fighters in their rush for world glory.

Hope Kell doesn't give up the title without fighting O'Donnell , Thompson or Watson......since the McIntyre win he's not really fought any top welterweights. Fair play for taking the Jennings fight though and incidently I think he'd beat all the welters in Britain. But the above would give him a better test than Elwell and Lomax IMO.

Hope Doherty can get some fights going again and best of luck with securing some fights Kevin! Tall, awkward southpaw, I wouldn't wanna fight ya either! :TU:

I'll be more than happy if Kell beats Jennings and gives up the belt. Yeah, Lomax and Elwell weren't the best but his emphatic wins over Jones and McIntrye, and a potential win against Jennings will tell me he's done with the domestic scene. I'll tell you what though, massive kudos to Kell for wanting Jennings.

If he beats jennings he's proven all he needs to at domestic level. Bit gutted Mike hasnt fought since Cotto, a tune up if you like.

Brook jennings will be intriguing.

:TU: Cheers. How are things?
Great Terry. If you were at the Khan Kotelnick fight, why didn't you pop down to ringside and say hello.

No excuses, you know my ugly face well enough.

Was in the stands, security wouldn't let me go and say 'hello' to anyone, must have looked like an undesirable. Hope to be at Kell's next one.
Terrible excuse as you know my mobile No.

However, problem solved, check your p.m's

Dohertys all talk no action. Can you remember when Kel won the british title and he jumped in the ring. Mind you he had to...it was the only way he was going to get his 5 minutes of fame.
