Boxing's biggest "opponent gulf.."

Post by whicker »

Last night Gavin Rees stopped Johnny Greaves, a fighter who has won 2 fights out of about 40 fights . OK, Greaves was a late replacement, but even so- is this the biggest even "gulf in class between opponents in successive bouts? From a world title fight to a 2-37 opponent?

No disrespect to anyone, just a topic for discussion. Has there even been a wider gap in class of opponents faced?

I cant think of any to be honest.

With respect, an ex-champ shouldn't be fighting a guy that even a novice pro would probably skip fighting.

That said, there were reasons behind the late replacement i imagine and otherwise it might have been a tomato can with less dents in it.

Have a look at Julio Cesar Chavez record and look at some of the filler/keep busy fights between his world title fights.

And Durans at 135, I'm sure a lot of the records for those guys are incomplete (and perhaps fabricated) but theres still some real shockers in there.

Yeah, Chavez, as a reigning World title holder and in his 50th fight, fought this guy- http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer who had 1 win, out of 15 fights!
