Aaron Pryor Vs Ray Leonard

Post by Adamj1987 »

Instead of of Leonard-bonds as this would probably be a bigger fight
2 great fighters only a divison apart and im guessing this fight would have to be at welter seeing as ray would be the main star and he never made light welter it could of gone a similar way to leonard-duran

Id say leonard points 15

Leonard is too big for Pryor. He was also just plain better. I'd expect a KO around 10.

We had this earlier this yr. Leonard is stronger, faster, punches harder, has a better chin and defense than the Arguello that Pryor fought.

SRL by stoppage inside of 12.

HBO has brainwashed a new generation of fans into believing that Ray ducked Pryor to fight weak opposition in Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler... don't ask, I've never heard of them before either... but clearly Ray by at least a comfortable decision. Pryor provides no asset that Leonard hasn't already faced and against superior fighters with better credentials.

Pryor would want it a whole lot more, & he wasn't anywhere near as far out of his depth here as so many seem to believe.

I think he swings it on a close decision, because, IMO, one of those people who believes Pryor to be out of his depth would be Leonard, himself. That said, Leonard was bigger & better, & I wouldn't expect a sharper, more determined version to permit Pryor to repeat the feat.

Pryor by sneak attack in a one-off fight. They can take one another on five times more though, if they like --- Leonard's winning every fight thereafter.

I agree that Pryor was a great fighter, but I don't think it is fair to say that he would want it a whole lot more than Ray. I don't think Ray could have beaten any of the big names that he did if he didn't have serious desire. Leonard willed his way to victory against the very best. You don't agree GI? Leonard was a narcissist, like many great fighters, he wanted as much fame and glory as he could get.

Leonard by TKO before the 10th round...But it would be very entertaining while it lasts.

An entertaining fight is an understatement. I too, feel Leonard is just too good for Pryor, too big & strong for Aaron! However, Pryor would give it a real good go & would come to win, give his all. i feel Pryor's relentless pressure would give cause Ray some problems, but in the end, Ray would prevail!

Pryor was a fantastic fighter. Imagine if he was around today in the Light-Welter division? Lookout all those at 140lbs! :box:

Pryor was fantastically managed. Booked by his management at a perfect time to pick Cervantes off just as he aged out, and making the most out of the TV era by taking on and taking out a prestigious smaller and aging champion in Arguello. Two truly great fighters that he did time perfectly and thus has the W's to show for it. The fights with Alexis were good no doubt. However as with any crime scene the real story is told in the full accounting of many forensic details that must be gone over and carefully analyzed. Witnesses are helpful as well. I was a witness and I recall he was a valued local franchise of the Cincinnati area and was fed on a special diet of chum/s as any big fish should be.

I only wish he would have actually faced Leonard, Duran, Benitez and some of the true best of that era so's we could all celebrate his greatness together in style.

But as well all know, they all ran away from Aaron. I suppose they had their PRYORities in order.

Then he of course just lost the magic touch due due to being depressed since the truly big fish refused to let him into the club. As a result he just could not hold himself together any longer as father time and the dreaded thirties were arriving ....and of course there was the comeback, and the Bobby Joe Young KO.. very messy...or very revealing. Depending your viewpoint.

Now the St Louis area had a bit of a franchise fighter named Leon Spinks and he sort of went down a similar road...but Spinks was a bum, not a true great like Pryor. Pryor deserves legendary status while Spinks deserves a good kick in the pants. (Well OK Leon and that pants kick does seem pretty reasonable)

Hey a good story is a good story. And that's a good story!
