Terap's Top 20.
Terap, Exactly what is your top 20 heavyweights of all time list? I'm really curious to know. You seem highly educated in boxing, and your opinions are valued by everyone on the forum. A top 20 list by you would be much appreciated. ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

getting to the original question:
the only way I can think of is to get the records of the fighter...if you don't have any of the o;d ring record books check them on boxrec and print them out. Go to the library and get the newspapers (now on micro film as a rule) and get the newspapers of the day of the title fights or the day before. Important fights were covered then and on the sports page they usually printed the tale of other tape, with all the physical stats.
libraries differ and some can drive you nuts, so ask for help if yu need it.
sometimes boxrec lists the heights of the boxers. if you find that,as a general rule the reach, as measured by arms held horizontal and from finger tip to finger tip is about the same as the height.
there are exceptions...welterweight joe walcott could pull up his socks without bending over, but the above paragraph is a reasonable check.

i'll be damned...so THAT'S where it went!!!! I clicked on the one with the question about the reaches of those welterweights and wondered why it didn't show up. must be most puzzling to those who haven't read that one. thanks tantum....i might never have found it as I don't thionk this one is on my notification list...
..now to get to the correct answer on THIS one...Gene Fullmer was NOT a cross dresser. wait a minute..let me check this thread topic again......

I was looking forward to reading some FILTH but unfortunately Terap, when I clicked on the link you provided, there was nothing but a light hearted post.
Perhaps you could explain why you regard that as "filth". I'm genuinely interested.
I would also be interested to see your top 20 to see how far down the list you place Muhammad Ali (if indeed he makes your list at all). But I realise that maybe we'll never know now...

IMO this is an inaccurate rule of thumb to use.
Off the top of my head.
Ali Height 75" Reach 80"
John Mugabi Height 68" reach 74"
Hearns Height 73" Reach 78"
Liston Height 73" Reach 82"
there are exceptions...welterweight joe walcott could pull up his socks without bending over, but the above paragraph is a reasonable check.

How about adding a little 'poetry' to this post...
"Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see...
FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY, STING LIKE A BEE".
Personally, I think Joe Louis ranks higher, but hey...you're entitled to your opinion...
