John O'Donnell vs. tom Glover fight of September 6, 2009

Post by Reenthelawman »

Dear Editors,

The fight referenced in caption was a Commonwealth Boxing Council Welterweight title fight, as appears from the writeup from saddoboxing (http://www.saddoboxing.com/10537-odonnellglover.html).

Thank you,

Hi Reenthelawman,
I was the person responsible for inputting the information for this bout. Just to set the record straight. The fight was scheduled as a non-title twelve rounder. Promoter Mick Hennessy had wanted the bout to be a Commonwealth title defence for O'Donnell but after prolonged negotiations with the Commonwealth Council the bout went ahead as a non-title affair (much to Mr Hennessy's annoyance).
With all due respect, I wouldn't give too much credence to what's reported on ANY internet boxing websites purporting to cover British domestic fights. Often ill informed and ignorant of the real facts these reports are regularly written by fans rather than bona fide journalists. Seldom, if ever, covered from ringside, the fights are simply watched on TV, allowing incorrect information, as is the case in this instance, to enter the mainstream.
I'd be tempted to stick to the promotors own websites and those of the better British daily papers.
The United Kingdom results and schedule section on BoxRec is second to none, and whilst this instance was indeed a slightly confusing one. I think we get it right 99.9% of the time.
All the best :TU:

Thank you for the answer. I was about to correct my own post when I read this posting: http://theboxingbulletin.blogspot.com/.

I admit I'm having difficulty maintaining the wiki pages for the Commonwealth title because the website for the Commonwealth Boxing Council is probably one of the worst in the business.

Thank you again for the reply.
