Sky boxing commentary, studio & production - blank canvass.

Post by gasman »

What changes would make to Sky's boxing commentary team and studio panel (if any)?

How could Sky's boxing coverage be improved in terms of production quality and what are your biggest issues with it, in its current format.

I would get Bunce and Kerr on instead of the presenter and Johnny Nelson annoys me he never has anything bad to say about any of the home fighters and doesnt voice his opinion imo also not show highlights of the undercard show the whole fight do it like ITV fight 1 undercard maybe a 10/8 rounder then the same then the main event, then some more undercard.

I agree with all of that. ITV 4 will begin at around 7.30 and they give us one or two fights before we get the main event.

Despite having to sit up all night, I actually most look forward to Sky's Las Vegas shows, of course it is partly due to the fact that we are going to be treated to elite boxers, but it is also because we will be able to see most of the undercard live before the main event.

Last night was a shocker particularly Glenn McCrory and Johnny Nelson. They never comprehended the injustice and spoke about Tyson Fury and what he can go onto. Dave Clark obviously has little boxing knowledge because he didn't reign them in and speak about what had gone on.

I don't have Sky any more but I wouldn't make any changes really. I'm an easily pleased TV boxing fan. Just like with ITV4 everyone says Mcguigan's got an agenda but I still think he gives a good insight.
I think Jim Watt's great even though he gets an unholy amount of stick on here.....for what possible reason would an ageing, Scottish, former World Champion Lightweight (stab in the dark at the weight lol)........give bias to a Heavy contest between 2 English guys contesting at a modest level. Jimbo called exactly what he saw and he was right.

I liked Dempsey, I also like that other guy that fronts, I don't know his name but he looks like he'd sell you a rolex.

I like Mccrory and Darkie, and I even have a soft spot for the other guy who gets a load of stick, Adam Smith. He gave a very passionate and enthusiastic commentary the night my brother fought for the title, really did it justice.

In short, Sky's production team have never disappointed me, only some shows.

Never, ever give hints about, never mind show brief highlights of, undercard fights which are to be shown after the main event.
Bring in Richie Woodhall as either co-commentator or studio summariser.
Ian Darke to get all the big gigs.
Get rid of Dave Clarke, bring in Paul Dempsey or Gary Norman. David Haye as regular guest when his time allows.
Bunce would be my first choice but Sky just wouldn't have that.
The underlying production is actually very good, but the presentation is poor.

Oh no, not Gary Norman.

Paul "bye for now" Dempsey has been missed.

Jim Watt should be roaming around everywhere - commentating and analyst if possible! I do miss Barry McG also.. he was great in his early days on Sky.

What is Dempsey up to nowadays? I remember he was on Setanta for a bit but I've not seen him on anything for quite some time now.

im sick of dave clark refering to undercard fights as 'a small hall classic' 'fight of the night' etc and then they only show us half the fight or skip some rounds.

dave clark said the power v hall fight last night was the pick of the nights undercard and that it was a thriller yet we only got shown 5 rounds out of the 8. if there is that good a fight on the undercard thats worthy of dave clark's description we should get to see the full fight.

last night is not the only time this has happened either. other good undercard fights have also had rounds skipped etc.

Dempsey is a superb presenter at whatever he does?

Dave Clark should stick to slapstick comedy interviews with darts player

There's obviously a lot of criticism of Presenters.
However, some seem to be under the misguided view that each and every Presenter can say what they like, when they like.
You couldn't be further from the truth.
The Producer is the "conductor" and at times is screaming through the headphones directing affairs.
Have a go at it.
Stick your I Pod earphones in playing something, and try to keep talking on a boxing matter.
It's not easy.
I know for instance exactly how Johnny feels about the fight, but he's not going to be allowed to vent his anger and launch into anyone, that's just not how it's done in media circles.
To say that McCrory and Nelson did not comprehend any injustice is laughable.
We are subjected to Moderators here - now multiply that by 100 and that's where you are with the media.
I do accept that Presenters have different styles - some we like, some not as much - but if you think changing them is going to lead to a massive change in towing the party line with what is said, then you're wrong.
That could of course change if there was a change of Producer.

Take your point about producers but are you saying McCrory and Nelson were just protecting their arses for Sky purposes? If so that makes them a lot of things.

I find it hilarious how some people think that the boxing pundits we get on our screens are going to tell the truth 100%!!!

If they did - quite simply they would not get used again!!!

If they do not hype the fights the channel they are working for - they will not get used again!!!

Some of you are extremely naive if you think people on our screens can be openly critical and not expect repucussions!!!

We were all spoiled by Buncies show where he did criticise many fighters and decisions.

I hoestly believe Sky are getting a raw deal here with regards the presentation etc etc - Ed Robinson, Adam, Nelson, Darke and McCrory are doing a bloody good job with some of the sh*t that the "purse" string holders agree in the first place to screen on the channel!!!

The route of the problem is not the programme itself with regards to presentation - its the TV executives demanding the promoters up the standards of their top of the bills and the undercards - if the promoters do not deliver then "bye bye" in comes a promoter who can deliver.

Yeah but rarely about Setanta fights or fighters. It's all very well having a pop at Max Kellerman because he was nothing to do with the station Buncey was working on.

I hate Dave Clarke, he is a proper Sky Sports rent boy who loves nothing more than a shit stirring, cliched, innuendo. I can't stand this shithouse.

Get Andy Kerr and Buncey on there. :TU:

Dave Clark *HAS* to go. He's an insult.

Bring Buncey in, bring Richie Woodhall in.

Let Buncey go wild. The current format makes MOTD look edgy.
