Are fights in the UK being 'stopped' too early??

Now I realise that this is potentially a difficult question bearing in mind the dangers of the sport but does anyone else feel that in general in this country refs are stopping fights too early??

I would be interested to hear people's views - would just be clear in that I am not trying to start a war here (Spud take note ).

I think the Macklin fight was stopped too early, bearing in mind it was a championship fight.

The Murray v Spencer stoppage for me was far too early, there are other examples I can think of which I won't list but my general issue is that I think fights are being stopped too early over here and that sometimes fighters are not being given a fair shout.

A good example for me to illustrate what I mean is the Neville Brown v Hassine Cherifi fight a few years back where Brown decked Cherifi I think 3 times in early in the fight, good ref allowed fight to continue and Cherifi won, I think if that fight had happened last night then Cherifi would have lost and that can't be right.

Thoughts anyone???


PS. I do realise that safety is the most important issue though before I get slaughtered!!!

Boxer's are probably the bravest athletes in the world and sometimes they need protecting from themselves which is what the job of the Ref should be to make sure a Boxer does not take too much punishment unnecessarily.

Alot of stoppages at first do seem too quick but on replay they usually are justified once you get to see how a Boxer reacted to a Ref's questions which i think was the case in the Macklin Fight last night.

Having said that, i do think British ref's do jump in a bit too soon.

I certainly think they would have have stopped the following 2 fights too soon:

Pavlik vs Taylor in the 2nd Rd when Pavlik got up from the Knockdown and was being hit from pillar to post by Taylor

Pac va Marquez 1 after the 3rd knockdown in the 1st Rd

I thought the Macklin stoppage was right he looked gone I agree with the Murray fight it was stopped to early Spencer was never really in trouble. Sometime's they are stopped early and sometime's they arent its the same everywere though

at the end of the day a boxers safety is paramount and a fight being stopped premature is a price to pay for the health of a boxer. would rather see an early stoppage than a serious injury/death in the ring!

wasnt the ref in the macklin fight italian???
