Esham Pickering - tomorrow night

Post by rhino222 »

lets not forget esham pickering fights in ukraine tomorrow night (sat) for the european title, he is up against it of course, we all know that, but lets wish esham all the best, i think he needs to jump all over the fella and let his fists be the judges, lets hope esham can catch him cold as a points victory for pickering seems unlikely over there.

This is a big ask for Esh - but he does have a puncher's chance.
Really that's what it will have to be - probably with a 15 count as well.

Don't quite know where this "punchers chance" is coming from. I've never considered Esham to be a devasting puncher.

this might pop up on one of these internet sites because it's a pretty decent card from what I remember looking on the schedule yesterday and I've seen fights in Ukraine on before.

Dont rate Pickerings chances, good opportunity though.

He may not be a devastating puncher but he has have a dig. Most of his stoppages have come in title fights, whereas otherwise he tends to give weight away v Nobby Nobbs type journeymen to keep busy

It would be good for British boxing if he got a result it would also be good for Paul Appelby as he has already beaten Pickering and would no doubt fight him for the European :TU:

Yeah, good luck to him. For a while, I thought Pickering was going to be the real deal. He looked excellent in his short reign as European 122lb champ, and he was desperately unlucky against Hunter -- although I was screaming on Hunter.

And then he just seemed to inexplicably tank. Don't know why. I'm sure that inside there's a high quality fighter trying to get out.

Anyway, good luck to him.

Thats probably why he got this shot! On paper, Pickering's record sounds impressive, which will be a factor.

I wouldn't say Awful, but certainly beatable.

The last two "challengers" this Ukrainian guy has boxed have been very poor- both coming off losses with weak records.

The impression that I get is that this Ukrainian champ is a little fragile- but popular, so opponents are .... assigned.... with care.

The fact that when Appleby pulled out they gave the chance to a person Appleby had previous BEATEN , rather than the guy who BEAT Appleby, says a lot, too.

One of boxings true gents is Esham.

He has had a good career and I hope he packs it in if he has something else to earn his money to pay the bills.

A top man who has fought for various titles and not always had the rub of the green - the Michael Hunter fight springs to mind.

let me guess.....Hagler??

joking aside....I was at this fight. To be honest, Pickering might have been declared the victor, but I feel that would have been unjust on Hunter. Hunter had weathered the early storm and had taken over from about round 5 onwards. Pickering pinched one or 2.....he may have even nicked the last. But Hunter won the fight. I was about the first person in the crowd (well, my section) to hail the new treble Champ........when the call went up "The winner, and still British Champion...." I was already cheering whilst most were a bit too slow lol.......as Hunter had entered the ring as British Champ.....obviously when he followed with...."........and new European and Commonwealth champion." the roof blew off.
I thought at the time that Pickering had floored him with meaty bombs, but watching that fight since, luckily, they looked like Hunter just hadn't seen them coming and didn't look that hard, although brilliantly executed nontheless.
