FROCH: DIRRELL’S DRIVEL MASKS INSECURITIES

Post by HS Press »

LONDON (October 11th ,2009) – WBC World Super Middleweight Champ, Carl Froch says he’s happy to let Andre Dirrell’s mouth make all the running ahead of their Super Six World Boxing Classic showdown at the Trent FM Arena, Nottingham on October 17th. Froch will launch his Super Six tournament campaign with his second WBC World Super Middleweight title against the unbeaten American hotshot who has already fired a number of verbal volleys across the Atlantic prior to his arrival in Nottingham today.

In his latest tirade directed at the Champion prior to boarding a flight for the U.K. Dirrell boasted, “When I get finished with Froch he'll have a look in his eyes as vacant as the title he won when Joe Calzaghe gave it up rather than waste his time with such a trivial defense.

“He wants me to stand up to the plate? I'm going to be slamming him with line drives and home runs from both sides of the plate like Mickey Mantle. Boxing and the U.K. will be thanking me for relieving them of Froch's greenhouse effect. I'm going to punch holes in that gasbag. His title reign will become vapor. If you ask me, Mr. Froch sounds more than a little worried about fighting me. I suggest he wear a diaper under his trunks so he doesn't embarrass himself in front of his fans while walking into the ring next Saturday. I said it before and I'll say it again, he can kiss my Yankee Doodle.

"Froch is going to discover on October 17 that his new world really is flat ... flat on his back," continued Dirrell. "I'm going to expose him like a "Page 3" pinup in The Sun. I've had my best training camp ever and I'm ready to shiver Froch's timbers from stem to stern. This is step one in showing that I am the heir apparent to the throne Joe Calzaghe vacated as the king of the super middleweight division, something Froch has never been able to achieve.

Froch though believes that the talk emanating from the challenger masks an underlying insecurity. “I think it’s a case of his mouth writing cheques that his butt can‘t cash,” said Froch. “All this trash talk from him this close to the fight only confirms the first impressions I had of him when we all met up in New York to launch the Super Six. I think all the big talk is just to mask his own insecurities that maybe he's not ready for this level. It sounds like he'd sooner take me on at baseball then step in to a ring with me.

“I think it's dawned on him that now he has to step into the ring with the world's best fighters and maybe he's starting to doubt his own ability. If that’s the case then the last place he needs to be next Saturday night is in a boxing ring at the Trent FM Arena, in front of 10,000 Cobra fans and with me standing in the opposite corner. It’s going to be a very, very lonely place for him and all the talk in the world will count for nothing when that first bell rings.”

The October 17th bout will be screened live on pay per view in the UK and Ireland on new satellite channel Primetime (Sky channel 480) as part of a knockout Super Six tournament double header from Nottingham and Berlin. The tournament officially kicks off in Germany when former marquee Middleweight Champs Arthur Abraham and Jermain Taylor clash at The O2 World Arena in Berlin before the action moves to Froch’s hometown and the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham.

To watch the opening night of the Super Six tournament on Primetime (Sky channel 480) call 0871 200 4444 (+448702 416 666 from the Republic of Ireland) or see http://www.primetimelive.co.uk. The event is available at a special price of £12.95 until 24 hours before the fight after which it will then increase to £14.95.

Primetime will build up to the event by screening Froch’s previous two world title fights, his twelve round thriller with Jean Pascal to win the WBC title and his sensational final round KO over Jermain Taylor in the U.S. in April. The fights will be broadcast from 7-10pm on Primetime each night leading up to the Super Six tournament double header on October 17th. Primetime will also broadcast FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic, a new reality series that will give fight fans unprecedented access into the lives of the Super Six tournament participants.

Dirrell really looks good when he puts things together. But Frochy has seen it all before with Pascal and Taylor. Both seem to be on the same level as Dirrell at least. I will post my bet on Frochy before the fight!! COME ON CARL!!

I personally believe that froch's public image has been a disaster since day one. He is painted as mouthy, arrogant and lacking in any sense of humour. Basically he comes across as a prick! At no point has anyone been encouraged to get behind him, ffs, many brits here want Dirrell to smash him.

Hennessey is doing the same job with Tyson Fury. Great shows, yes, but Warren has so much more knowledge about how to use the press!!!

Froch fights were on BBC, Sky, ITV and now he has got a World title he is fighting on some obscure channel, its really annoying. Its a shame he doesnt understand the difference between confidence and arrogance, because he is losing out on support, and many just want to see him flat on his back on the canvas. I want to support him not just because hes British, but because like me hes an East Midlander. I think I would be more enthusiastic about supporting him if he was more humble. Some say its just boxing hype, but it does him no favours and nobody is forcing him to blow his own trumpet.

Agreed. Hatton is the template for how to run the media and use them for your own gain. Froch can still turn it around with a bit of humility.

It never comes across as tongue in cheek, he just comes across as an arrogant git. Yet we all know he shat himself against Taylor, the old amateur insecurities coming back!!

Poor PR, such a waste! And because of this Super six is hidden away on an obscure PPV channel!! :(

yep.

i always get behind the british fighters.

i even wanted froch to beat taylor on the night they fought.

i listened to it on the radio and was pleased as punch that froch turned it around.

but this build up is the straw that broke the camel's back.

coupled with the fact i don't think froch is gonna win anyway. :KO: :OhYes:

Froch goes into Taylor's backyard and pulls off a stunning last-round victory through sheer heart and persistence and yet all you can do is say he shat himself?  What a f**king joker...

The first 8 rounds had him looking terrified, he came through and won it, I have given him props for that, as good as anything Joe did, but seriously, he panicked for the first two thirds of the fight!!

Oh, and if you want to use terns like fcking joker, the current scene is an excellent place to reside!! :TU:

Pocket, I think it's probably the first time I've ever used that phrase in the entire time I've been posting here, but some of your ridiculous statements on this thread pushed me to it.
What's the number one complaint of posters on this forum including you? It's mismatches, protected fighters etc.
Well, here, for the first time in as long as I can remember, we have a British fighter who has backed up everything he's said to date - he was a world-class amateur and has consistently chased the big fights since turning pro.
In his first defence of the world title, which he won in an absolute war where he showed incredible heart and courage, he has the balls to go into the backyard of a fighter of Taylor's calibre and displays a never-say-die attitude, resulting in one of the most imipressive wins by a British fighter in recent times (especiallly when taking into account the conceding of home advantage).

So in response to someone who on paper should represent a goodsend to British fight fans, you say:
"He's an arrogant git" (he's 'walked the walk on everything he's said, so where's the arrogance?)
"He's insecure" (err, why would an insecure fighter take the Taylor bout?)
"He shit himself" (words fail me at this point)
Given the above I think it's pretty clear who belongs on the more immature forum.

Don't understand why people don't like Froch.

Ok I don't like boxers that are proper rude and just mouth off with nothing to back it up with but Froch isn't like that, he's just similar to Haye and Haye never seems to get a bad deal out of the press or tv deals or a lack of fans. I just think with froch it stretches back to him saying that he would beat Joe.

If Froch said that Dirrell was complete b**ocks and he would easily beat him in 1 punch and then mouthed him off with personal insults then, people could say that he's a dick head but he doesn't he just plays a bit of a game which isn't wrong, he's just trying to pshyc his opponent out.

Some of the best boxers and most popular of all time do what Froch do.

Ali
Tyson
Mayweather
Sugar Ray
Hopkins
Duran
Eubank
Benn
Naz

And I'm sure there's many more who have had a bit of an attitude. At the end of the day I like boxers more for their styles and ability and not so much for their attitude, but on the other hand I never liked Naz because of how far he went with being disrespectble and arrogant

Deserter, my friend, i think you have misinterprteted a few of the comments, so here we go

The comments about arrogance are purely down to the public perception of him as a person. All fighters are arrogant about their own abilities, if they werent they wouldnt have jumped into the hardest sport around. But the public do not like a guy who mentions in monotone terms he is the best and seems to have no humility. The lack of humility means that only people like us are watching his fights. I have already pointed that i believe that wins against Pascal and taylor are as good as anything Joe ever did. but his seemingly(press engineered) unlikable personality is leaving the general public cold.

Naz did this, but there was always the grin, the little 'you know this is tongue in cheek' tone that left him still loved by most of the public, a A HOUSEHOLD NAME!. The blue print on how not to do this was used when Joe first became champ and around the time of the Brank Sobot fight when Joes had that Froch thing going. Frank changed it a bit and Joe became a household name.

No-one wants to watch Froch bar us, and if he wants to be a star his camp need to make sure he has appeal.

Now onto the pooping himself issue. Better judges thatn my good self have said that he had that panicked look he had as an amateur. Like he had arrived in the big leagues. That cost him as Taylor swept the first two-thirds of the fight. When Froch woke up(and Taylor got tired) he came on and did the greatest British win of the year, of many a year, but that mental fragility is still there. Its not about taking the fight, its about getting in the ring, and I tell you something, if he gets into the ring with Kessler like that he wont be around to make the big comeback.

I have nothing but respect for Carl, as my posts point out, I just see a man who should be bigger thatn he is and not a man who should be hidden away on a PPV channel!!

Agreed. I think Froch has the balls but does get nervous and doubt himself at time. Ultimately I think he believes deep down that he can do it, but he gets nervous... it's plain to see that he isn't as confident in there at times as he says he is. I think he needs that talk to get himself up for the fights though. He looked a bit petrified in the Taylor fight but came through it. That would have done him the world of good. When you think about it, it was MAJOR pressure on Frochy. If he had lost the fight, he would have forever been seen as another Brit who couldn't make it in the US. I think he'll be more confident in himself now and will give it to Dirrell. I hope so anyway.

Froch will never have the public behind him imo. His rise up the ranks was awful. "I'm a better athlete than Beckham" etc. Also the chasing of Calzaghe. We've seen now, with Witter chasing Hatton and Froch chasing Calzaghe, it just doesn't help the image of the fighter doing the chasing. The thing to do in that situation is to not even mention Calzaghe and let other people build it up.

I think Froch will have the better career than calzaghe anyway. With this win over Dirrell, he definitely eclipses Calzaghes resume for me. A win over Abraham or Kessler would make calzaghe look like a mug.
