Whats going on with Hopkins?

Post by Old bones Ian »

His next fight is against average Enrique Ornelas, so why is he fighting at this level now?

All Hopkins recent fights have been at elite level, and i thought he was retiring if he couldn't continue getting these fights, so is Bernard risking his legacy against a low level opponent?

Bernard Hopkins v Enrique Ornelas ?????

Post by the patriot »

Just noticed that Hopkins is down to face Enrique Ornelas on the 2nd December (a Wednesday!! :-? )

Any of you who frequent Current Scene heard anything about this (I try my best to stay off that particular forum  )

Bit of a strange date aswell :-?

I'm guessing Hopkins people organised it to take place on the same day as RJJ v Green for whatever reason, I know the Aussies fight on odd days, just a quick look at Greens record shows that most of his recent fights have taken place on either a Sunday or a Wednesday.

45 yo with boring style who has to fight smaller men or nothing:

any wonder it's come to this?

i don't see this as a masterplan. it's obviously to get active as he doesn't fight often, and hype up a desperate HBO rematch with jones jr.

Isn't Enrique Ornelas the brother of Librado Andrade?

You do know that he's agreed to fight RJJ? It's just a build up for that plus the fact that HBO promised him a January fight which they then took away so i guess he wants a rust shaker.

Taylor was not smaller than Hopkins (your analogy means that Duran was bigger than Hagler... Hagler never went above Middle, Duran fought at Super Middle). Joe was for the most part of his career BIGGER and Tarver was after alot of the fights that you mention.

?

The dude is 40+. Cut him some slack.

Trinidad was MW Champion, expecyted to KO Hopkins.
DLH bout was at 158lbs. Hopkins came in at 156lbs.
Taylor? Their both at same division?

Winky, fair enough.
Calzaghe was SMW... incase you didn't notice Hopkins spent much of his career at MW. If you're going to call Hopkins LH, then why say Trinidad and DLH were Blown-up?

i think what he's getting at is the fact hopkins boiled down for years to make middleweight.

he was a big middle alright.

hopkins is a great fighter.

jones is greater though. ;;-)
