Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
Why has this been changed back to nationality when it obviously doesnt describe the boxers nationality?

Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
any chance of a reply on this?
Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
It got overwritten by an upgrade, have changed it back again
Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
John, without starting another massive debate, should the country field not be marked with the actual country the boxer is from? e.g Paul McCloskey - Country: Northern Ireland/Craig McEwan - Country: Scotland etc. As you are probably aware, United Kingdom is not a country, it's a constitutional monarchy consisting of four countries. Once again, this is not an intention to troll, I hope that only you will respond to this.John wrote:It got overwritten by an upgrade, have changed it back again
Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
If you remember I used to have it that way (endless arguments about the NI flag) but had to change to keep up with database/code developments. The system now uses the ISO 3166-1 codes, see http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_ ... e_elements It's also the reason that Kosovo is not yet in the system.Deno1986 wrote:John, without starting another massive debate, should the country field not be marked with the actual country the boxer is from? e.g Paul McCloskey - Country: Northern Ireland/Craig McEwan - Country: Scotland etc. As you are probably aware, United Kingdom is not a country, it's a constitutional monarchy consisting of four countries. It's strange that the ISO database does not have England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales listed as a country and yet it has Vatican City down. Thanks for the reply, John.John wrote:If you remember I used to have it that way (endless arguments about the NI flag) but had to change to keep up with database/code developments. Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
I'm glad its been changed back John.
Am I right in saying that we are now back to the position where if a fighter holds an BUI licence they are ranked with the Irish fighters and if they hold a BBBoC licence they are listed with the British fighters.

Re: Nationality - Ranking Country field (again)
No, there really isn't a functioning system in place. The country is put in as the boxer is first entered in the system and then if we get it wrong the boxer or his management will often contact us to get it changed. I stress "Country" as that seems to be a lot less contentious than "Nationality".slapbangwhallop wrote:I'm glad its been changed back John.
