Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?

It appears that Jones didn't get the reception that he thought he would get coming down under.
It's a shame because he deserves it.
Good point that Australian boxing is probably talent wise the best it's been in decades and the fan support is at it's worst.

1pm on Thursday afternoon most people would have been at work. The inner city area is all bankers, insurance types etc.
Working class people work in the suburbs.

Agreed
Re: Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?
I don't know for sure but i think maybe these rugby converts have done some damage not that they intended too, they're good guys but if rugby player are winning Australian titles and knocking out most their opponents then what does that say to people about boxing?, what hardcore boxing fans don't understand is they're fighting weak comp, most these guys they fight probably do their training at mcdonalds, when they have stepped up they have lost even mundine.

katsidis and darchinyan realised this and fcuked off a long time ago

Where did New Zealand come in to it?...thats stupid. We kiwis know an apperciate some boxing matches in Australia, when we have just one (Cameron/Tua mismatch) you go out your way to put it down. Thats immature Im glad theres no kiwis typing uncalled for reads.Eric t wrote:Name one world title fight for a respected title that has happened in new zealand in the last 10 years!!!!![]()

Speaking of surprise subjects, I've noticed you havent said anything more about a Meehan/Tua in your post you started when I posted Meehan/Tua NZ 1989 amateur heavyweight final. In Australasia NZ provides the majority of heavyweight power punching fighters. Cameron was a 'Australasian' champion, David Tua last Australasian to fight for the 'WORLD' HW championship, Jimmy Peau (thunder) did ok power puncher, Ray Sefo I know he's a kickboxer but hes an Australasian KO king, Mark Hunt currently living in Australia but learned his trade here he too another KO king with the hardest jaw out of them all and finally Kali Meehan his boxing is also from NZ although he calls Australia home.
Heavyweights will no doubt KO any light-middle weight fighters, and Australiasia best are from NZ.
You know who'd be the first to tell you to shut up with your comment about 'kiwis being good for a laugh?', Kali Meehan would.
Re: Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?
Eric T is confused about Rugby in his quote:
If you are talking "Rugby", you are inferring "Rugby Union"! The boxers that have converted are from "Rugby League" NOT "Rugby Union". Rugby League split from Rugby Union in Australia in 1908. Please use the term: "Leaguies or NRL Players" to stop further confusion between the codes as no Rugby players have converted to professional boxing for decades!these rugby converts have done some damage not that they intended too, they're good guys but if rugby player are winning Australian titles

Re: Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?
I agree with some of what Foxdog wrote, we Australians don't just dominate the Light middle we dominate every division up to Cruiser....You have Tua and Jimmy thunder the other guys you mentioned are Kick Boxers and this is Boxing.
Shane Cameron is finished.....I wouldn't be bragging about him anymore and it was Meehan who last challenged for a world title???

Not sure if Cameron is finished. There are plenty of punters who will want to see him fight, regardless who he fights. The same free to air TV station who signed on Tua has expressed great interest in re-signing Cameron. Sure, he may or may not fight for a world title and got hammered by Tua but since NZ is not spoiled for choice a bit of window dressing will get Cameron back on the road.

Eric T, why do you bother mate!!! do you read your posts out loud before you hit the submit button??? most of your posts DO NOT make any sense at all and if you hadn't noticed adam is an ex-pat pommy residing in QLD, AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!! I don,t post anywhere as much as I used to because of idiots such as yourself but when I did, I always read my post out loud to see if it made any sense. You seem to shoot your mouth off about many things with NO reasoning to support your dribble. As toppity says " its great that we have a wide variety of opinions on the forum and most make good reading and encourages great interaction." But please mate have a bit more of a think about your posts before you hit submit.
Re: Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?
The last six years have been a bit lean for him. He talks about his win over Lacy. lacy is the only fighter Jermain Taylor has beaten in his last five fights. It is a while since Roy held a recognised World title.Lethaleigh76 wrote:1pm on Thursday im at work, I believe Roy Jones will get a massive reception when he enters the arena, he deserves it, 1 of greatest of the last decade.

Re: Where have all the australian boxing fans gone?
I didn't read the article but from what I gathered in the first few posts I see a couple of problems, one that has been mentioned - blokes have to work, two - I didn't even know he was doing any promo stuff on a thursday at 1pm ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Who cares about the prediction league, I'm in the PTBF boxrec and i'm averaging about 75% on some fighters i've never seen fight.
Accurate
Out of curiosity how old are you?

Billy Elliot vs Marali for the IBO superfeather strap... HAadamheight wrote:name me 1 good world title fight that happened in oz within the last year....1

I hate to admit this but Japan are the number 1 asian boxing country, although there world champions are continuously fighting for world titles there fighters on a world level go unnoticed.
