Bruno

I think I am right in saying that Bruno made an application for his lisence to the Souther Area Council about a month ago, I've heard nothing since though.

I to hope he dosn't make this comback, he was a good gutsy fighter in his prime, very strong with a huge punch but always failed at the very highest level. He aint going to do any better now he's been out of the ring for anout 7 years and in his 40's.

But like many ex-fighters his post ring life does not seem to have been a happy one.

I heard that too. In any case, even if they were to grant him a licence, it'd be just wrong to let him in with Williams, Hide, or even Audley now.

It's certainly all gone quiet. I think the Board were put under a lot of pressure by the mini-riot at York Hall in May (as overblown on national TV by Steve Bunce and Richie "Without a shadow of a doubt, it was a riot" Woodhall). Boxing was slagged off in the national press for a few weeks afterwards and Bruno was not spared later when it was claimed he trashed a room at a psychiatric center he was being treated at. If the Board had granted him a licence, it would have given the hacks another field day (Board licences nut). I think the eyes thing may have been a convenient excuse from the Board. I mean, I've never seen Bruno wearing glasses!

I know that Alan Partridge drove to Scotland in his bare feet whilst stuffing himself with Toblerones at the height of his depression, bu it would seem that Frank is going down a similar path...

This is taken from The People:

FRANK CYCLED 7 MILES WITH GUMSHIELD & BARE FEET.. HE IS CRACKING UP
THE bizarre behaviour of boxing idol Frank Bruno became even more disturbing last week as he went for a training spin on a bike in his bare feet.
Lonely Frank, 41, who is convinced he is going to make a comeback, wore a gumshield - something fighters usually only do in the ring - as he trundled through the countryside for seven miles.
As his behaviour becomes increasingly irrational, the ex-world heavyweight champion will return to The Priory clinic tomorrow.
The People can reveal that sad Frank...
DANCES NUDE in the rundown grounds of his mansion in the early hours and talks to himself.
IS AWAKE nearly 24 hours a day and struggles to sleep in a boxing ring in the garden.
IS WATCHED round-the-clock by desperately-worried relatives.
HAS DEVELOPED an obsession with tidiness but sometimes does not even know what day it is.
One of the boxing legend's alarmed friends said last night: "We fear Frank is cracking up. Some days he seems fine but on others he seems to have lost the plot completely.
"He needs to get himself sorted out and hopefully the doctors can do something for him."
"But there is a possibility he could be kept in if things are not improving."
Frank first checked into the Priory in Chelmsford, Essex, seven weeks ago as he struggled to come to terms with his divorce from his wife Laura, 43.
He shuffled into the hospital "like a zombie" but left after a day claiming he was OK.
But the 17-stone hero - who has been taking lithium pills for three months to cope with his violent mood swings - returns tomorrow for blood tests and progress checks.
Concerned friends fear he may have to be readmitted for further treatment to get him back to his normal self.
Meanwhile Frank's sister Joan is so concerned she has moved into his £2 million home in Stondon Massey, Essex.
She has also asked friends to keep a close eye on him.
Frank's depression deepened after his mum Lynette, a district nurse and Pentecostal lay preacher, fell ill.
A boxing insider said: "On some days Frank gets two hours sleep a night if he is lucky.
"He has been trying to sleep in the boxing ring in his garden and sometimes early in the morning he will dance around outside with almost no clothes on, singing to himself.
"He is obsessively tidying up all around the house. His behaviour is very strange because the grounds are an absolute tip. As well as the boxing ring, there are prefabs, tents, an articulated lorry and a shed where he has DJ turntables.
"Frank is heavily dependent on his sister who is very worried for him.
"He seems to be in total denial that anything is wrong but sometimes he doesn't even know what day it is.
"His nearest and dearest know the real truth. He really misses not having the kids around him.
"He has been by himself with too much time on his hands and has been brooding on things for far too long."
Frank, who retired in 1996 after losing his title to Mike Tyson, was sent reeling by his 2001 split from wife Laura.
She and kids Nicola, 20, Rachel, 16, and Franklyn, seven, moved to a village three miles away.
Frank sees them infrequently but Laura, who got a £5 million divorce settlement, is so worried about him she visited him on Friday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, tracksuited Frank - who recently announced he wants to fight Britain's Olympic heavyweight champ Audley Harrison - stunned villagers as he pedalled barefoot with a gum shield in his mouth. He cycled to an industrial estate where he stopped at a cafe for a can of pop and a cake.
One bystander said: "He appeared to be in a world of his own. It was very sad to see him like that. He seemed oblivious to anything going on around him.
"To think that his man was once one of Britain's favourite sportsmen is heart-breaking."
Yesterday one of Frank's best pals Steve Purdew, boss of Henlow Grange health farm, Beds, said: "I've known him for 18 years and he is having a bad time.
"I've been concerned about Frank for a long while. When people are going through a problem like this they need help."
Another pal TV psychic Uri Geller said: "I'm in daily contact with him.
"I would like to see him rest somewhere and pull his thoughts together .He needs to know which direction to go.
"He needs very, very good friends around him who are truthful and he definitely needs to listen to some of them."
Bruno's cousin, Ena, who lives with Lynette in south-west London, 'I am not really at liberty to go into details, but the fact that his family have moved out has obviously been hard for him.'
Frank, who had more than 60 professional and amateur fights, has also been urged by boxing promoter allegedly to get help.
Warren said recently: "I told him, 'I am seriously worried about you Frank. So are all your true friends.
'You are suffering from depression and you need to be in a clinic where you can escape the pressures of daily life and get professional treatment'."

Let's hope they don't give Frank the 3AM Radio Norwich slot.

I did hear lately he said all these depression rumours were crap...but he might say that anyway I guess.
He did look in a world of his own ringside a few weeks back, sitting next to Warren I think.

But at that Audley/Hide riot he looked good in the ring before the handbags broke out.

Big Frank obviously really misses the sport - doesn't seem to know what to do with himself - he should be out on his boat cruising the Med or west Indies, not moping at home...easy to give advice I know - perhaps he'd make a great trainer - it'd be good to get him back into the sport somehow.

Saw big Frank in the peacock gym on Saturday afternoon. He looked like he had been running.
I would agree with what Warren was saying, he didnt seem like a well man at all.
Lets hope he can sort things out....

I hope he isn't allowed back, he'd get KTFO in no time at all. I dread to think what Franks footwork and reflexes look like now.

I feel sorry for Frank too..

I've said all along that he shouldn't be allowed to make a comeback..

I hope he can get his life back in order..

Just have to say, I know it's not really a joking matter, but there was recently a cartoon/characature done in one of Britians favourite tabloids..

It was of Frank Bruno laying down on a couch in a mental hospital.. The doctor had turned to the nurse and was saying, "If he starts causing trouble just tap him on the jaw and he'll be out for the count again.."

Jesus, Bruno's in a right state. I hope he manages to find peace outside the boxing ring because nobody's ever going to licence him to fight again. Perhaps, as Mighty Warrior states, he can find a role within the sport.
