Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
olguseun would be the most intriguing fight for Mccloskey but I think he'll fight kotelnik
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
at least we know now that we will get to see both Rogan and McCloskey fight! I can't see Kotelnik taking the fight on such short notice but I think Olusegan could happen.

Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
if murray is serious about a khan figt he should be looking for a fight like this
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
it says rees is well away from 10st then what weight could he possibly be for a smaller light welterweight.

Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
sounds like you are referring to McCloskey as a stepping stone to Khan. Paul McCloskey is one of the most under-rated boxers out there and I would even go as far as saying that McCloskey beats Khan. If John Murray fought McCloskey on the 6th of November he would get schooled!sweetscience wrote:if murray is serious about a khan figt he should be looking for a fight like this

Sorry mate but no chance McCloskey beats Khan or Murray for that matter.
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
McCloskey beating Khan is just my opinion as I have seen alot more of McCloskey than most both as a amateur and pro and think he has what it takes to beat Khan.I can see why you say he has no chance of beating Khan but if everyone agreed we wouldnt have a forum!teddy007 wrote:Deno1986 wrote:sounds like you are referring to McCloskey as a stepping stone to Khan. As for Murray, he is an excellent lightweight and has an opportunity to do something in the division over the next year or two but I don't think he can step up to light-welter and take on someone of McCloskeys calibre at this moment. A lot of people forget Murray is only 24 and has plenty of time to start switching divisions. I have no doubt he will be a force in the lightwelter division but that time is not now and I still say McCloskey would school him.
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
Incidentally, Sky now plan to screen both McCloskey-TBA and Sam Sexton-Martin Rogan 2 from Belfast live on November 6, McCloskey first.
Thats a bloody good idea! I'd much rather see two good live fights (so what if they are at two different venues) than one live fight and all that highlights and prattle they normally do.

So how legit is M'Baye pull out......stinks from my sofa. But that could be my feet.
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
mac's obviously a good fighter, but i would not favour him vs khan and murray. khan to his credit holds m'baye's old title. murray has stopped numerous good light welters - thaxton (who holds win over scrap iron ryan, when he was commonwealth champ), mcallister (EBU champ at 140) and hickman (spotty record but 2 very nice wins at 140) - and is a very accomplished british champion.

they always intended to.BIGMARK wrote:does this mean Sky will show Sexton-Rogan 2 now?

But that costs twice as much and they'll add less than 10% to the audience of the Rogan fight.
Its a shafting if you ask me.

That win was in 1996. Does that really count for much in 2009?Autobarn wrote:thaxton (who holds win over scrap iron ryan, when he was commonwealth champ),
Do you mean the WBU champion? Because he was never the European champion.Autobarn wrote:mcallister (EBU champ at 140)
Do you mean his wins over Adnan Amar (2004) and Gary Reid (2005)? Those wins are decent, not great.Autobarn wrote:and hickman (spotty record but 2 very nice wins at 140)

I'm trying not to be drawn too far here. But perhaps it would be better ask, who gains?whicker wrote:Who is being shafted?DavidPayne wrote:But that costs twice as much and they'll add less than 10% to the audience of the Rogan fight.

Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
Jason Cook, Ted Bami, David Barnes or Gavin Rees will surely be the replacement.
I'll tip Jason Cook being drafted in at short notice. Anyone with me?

Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
You can't see Cook accepting a no-lose European title shot in favour of hanging around for the lottery of Prizefighter? Even if he were to lose to McCloskey on points he could still take part in Prizefighter which would be 4 weeks later. He'll probably earn more cash too. Cookie famously won the EBU lightweight title as a late notice sub when he sparked Sandro Cassimonica in Italy after being down himself all those years ago.BIGMARK wrote:isnt Cook down for Prizefighter? if he is i cant see him dropping out to take this fight and that's if he's ready to fightBen Carey wrote:Jason Cook, Ted Bami, David Barnes or Gavin Rees will surely be the replacement.

Matchroom will still want to stage this show so the likelihood is they'll line one of their fighters up from Prizefighter to challenge McCloskey.
Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
Could he take part in PrizeFighter if he gets knocked out? I would think that there is a very good chance of him getting stopped in this fight, if it happens.Ben Carey wrote:Even if he were to lose to McCloskey on points he could still take part in Prizefighter which would be 4 weeks later. Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
I'm sure Cook would take the Euro shot if offered it instead of hanging around for Prizefighter. He would have nothing to lose. Where does he go if he loses Prizeighter? Nowhere fast, that's for sure. But, yes, if he got KO'd by McCloskey almost certainly he'd be out of Prizefighter.Horse wrote:Could he take part in PrizeFighter if he gets knocked out? Cook's shelf life is limited, he's in his mid 30s, skint (that's why he's back) and injury prone. He's leap at the chance of taking on McCloskey because Jason can punch and McCloskey does take chances defensively. Cook's biggest battle would be to get down to 10st in time because he does "blow up" in-between fights. Anyway, it's all just idle speculation from me. The EBU might not even sanction Cook as a challenger though they make look favourably on him because he is a former European lightweight champion.

Re: MBaye pulls out against McCloskey
Adnan wasnt weight drained for that fight - his 'mistake' was to try to move away along the ropes with both hands by his waist. Dean timed him to perfection and cleaned his clock with probably the best left hook he ever threw. Adnan's head hit the canvas with a sickening thud. A well deserved win for Hickman which looks better and better given Adnan's improving recent fortunes.Deno1986 wrote:even if he does have a victory over Adnan who if I remember correctly was badly weight drained for that.
