how did you score haye vs valuev????

Post by boxerbob »

as mentioned last night i watched the fight on a grainy stream and thought the fight ended in a draw 114-114 but after watching the fight again on tv i thought haye won , but only just 115-114.

haye landed the cleaner and harder punches
valuev was more active in the rounds he won

very very close fight , i do not agree with the 116-112 scores , that was too wide

116-114 Haye, but so many of the rounds were close I would have not cried robbery if there had been a 4 point difference either way

i had valuev winning by two rounds, haye for me simply didnt do enough to take the champions title over the 12 rounds- valuev had the centre of the ring for most of the fight, was more aggressive and jabbed all night, keeping haye at bay .Up until the 12th round Valuev s corner must of thought he was in the lead as he just continued with his tactics and never changed throughout the fight, if they'd told him he was behind, it could of been a more interesting last few rounds.....but what a damp squib of a fight but congrats to haye on getting there!

Haye 115--Valuev 114.

Haye shaded it; he fought a very impressive tactical fight.

Agree the 4-point margins on two of the cards were too wide.

somewhere between 7-5 and 8-4 haye. 7-4-1 sounds about right. haye did some nice subtle things. bit too subtle, but he did things ppl aren't giving him so much credit for. he won enough of the close rds and he won all 3 of the decisive rounds (8, 9 & 12). obviously the size difference eradicated the pretty big advantage in class that hay held.

114-114 and that was being generous to Valuev as the 'hometown' fighter. I thought a draw would have been a fair result as neither of them did enough to retain/win a World Heavyweight Title!

i had it 115-115 but i was giving the close rounds to valuev or at least shared as this seems to be the champions perogative, especially in his own back yard.

I had it 115-114 for Haye. Valuev was winning the last round until he was hurt, if he had survived that last 30 seconds without getting caught he would have won on my card. There was so little to separate them for the most part. Valuev plodding forward and missing with jabs, Haye running around and throwing 2 punches the entire round. I thought a draw would have been a fair result

I had it 115-113 Haye. The 116-112 cards don't seem out of order to me.

I expect I will be judged as cyncal (albeit by a majority/split/or clear decision either ways) but how can you really score some of these fights. I thought, watching the fight without deliberately scoring it that Valuev may have got it. Maybe I was thinking Germany, front foot, imposing figure (not that it was ever an overriding consideration for them there  ), and a few shots either way - there's no way Haye will get the decision.

But this is the HW division and there's a huge marketability factor at play here and the dollars that that entails especially on the perimeter (sorry AB)

I am pleased for Haye - the way he got the freakishly big solid (technical) guy out the way was spot on. But less of the mouth please thank you very much - I think the Klitschkos would have gained more from the performance than the banter.

Had Haye +3.

For all the criticism being thrown at him, can someone tell me how he could have won the fight in any other fashion?

How can anyone call it for Valuev when, as a world champ, he couldn't land a decent punch in twelve rounds.

I had Haye by a mile!! I only gave Valuev 2 rounds Maximum and that was the general opinion in the stadium too. Im gobsmacked people have it even or even to Valuev. I'll watch it again on TV but Valuev was just hitting fresh air from what I saw

I think he is getting some criticism because he didn't even attempt to live up to his pre fight boasts.

However I feel he probably saw how Holyfield did it and felt those tactics would be his best chance of success. He had a game plane, stuck to it and was ultimately successful. In fairness getting the win was the all important thing. Hopefully he hasn't signed his life away to King as he did with the Klits

He's a savvy man, Haye. I can't imagine he'd allow King any power. How much influence does King have nowadays?

Savy enough to take the Klit fight with clauses for a rematch, fighting his brother, plus another rematch, all in Germany and only for Setanta money.
So far Haye has shown talent and balls in abundance and zero business sense. FW is the only fella which has paid him any money

Shut my mouth. All right lets hope he's shown a modicum of business sense then.

Regarding the Klitchkos - if he'd beaten one, then the brother would be the logical next fight...and should he beat the two then who's left but to fight the other again, or a rematch. I'd imagine Haye's a wealthy man, one so ambitious that he's need to earn money and have power pales into insignificance next to his desire to beat the best in the world. Obviously if he had fought and beaten Wlad then by rights he should come to the table with fair amount of clout when negotiating terms for the Vitali fight. But as fans of boxing, from our perspective, it would have been great, we'd have seen the fights we want to see.

I had Valuev ahead by two rounds, about the same as one of the tv announcers who was, incidentally, obviously biased in favor of Haye. Haye ran away all night, did nothing effective except land one or two good punches in the final round, nothing to deserve taking away a championship belt. Two of the judges scorecards were bogus. That's it. That's all i have to say. You can go back to talking about how great you think your boy is now.

Haye only earned proper money for the Enzo Macc fight(1 million purse), he went into Mormacks back yard for about 50k and that is as much as he earned before. He certainly has not earned retirement money.
He is a complete breath of fresh air in terms of chasing the big fights and not caring about the money. Obviously the money will be there if he keeps winning, maybe it's just a sign of his confidence.
The Klits are the obvious fights now, and i'll bet those are the fights he will be pushing for instead of Ruiz if King has his way.

As much as I wanted Haye to lose I still don't see how anyone could consider this an unjust result. Anyone who thinks Valuev was robbed needs to get their head out of his hairy gigantic ass.

116-114 for Haye. Had it level going into last round and wouldn't have complained if Valuev had been given the nod.
