I'll have to think about this list for a while, right now I'd like to see Pep/Saddler II from 1949.
Have only ever seen the 3rd of their 4 fights.

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
The 1971 Frazier-Ali FOTC overshadows them all.

Hagler-Hearns
Hagler showed the difference between how a great fighter performs, and how a good fighter (Ray Leonard-Hearns) performs

So much was displayed in that fight. Heart, chin, skills, power, speed and a change of style's from Leonard to come back and knock Hearns out. Gotta love it.elmersalsa wrote:Leonard vs Hearns I

Nearly impossible to pick one, but I'll go with Chacon vs Boza-Edwards II
Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
If i could go abck and watch one I'd have to pick Greb. Probably against Tunney. Not only is 20s America an era that totally fascinates me I'd also have a chance to see the man.
If I'm picking one as the best fight I'd possibly go with Chacon-Limon from 82

Yeah, that was a great fight. Boza and Bobby were rarely in a bad fight. The Great John L wrote:Nearly impossible to pick one, but I'll go with Chacon vs Boza-Edwards II
Saad Muhammad - Yaqui Lopez (2) was awesome too.

Yes, that one was probably the greatest comeback from near death I've ever seen.Collins2000 wrote:Yeah, that was a great fight. Boza and Bobby were rarely in a bad fight. The Great John L wrote:Nearly impossible to pick one, but I'll go with Chacon vs Boza-Edwards II

The fight I watch and have enjoyed the most was
Bowe vs Holyfield 1992.
then
Patterson vs Chuvalo 1966.

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
I'm with ya with Bowe/Holyfield I. Talk about two fast skilled action oriented heavyweights. I notice in the early two rounds where it seems like Bowe is implementing a plan, but then it seems to dawn on him that he's the bigger man and took the action to Holyfield.Robinson wrote:The fight I watch and have enjoyed the most was

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
Schmeling vs Louis (1936)

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
When I first watched that fight, I did not know the result (had it on VHS),
and I was going for Holy. In that first round, he looked so good and active,
and then like you said...Bowes game plan slowly started to take effect
and Holyfield, being Holyfield fell into his trap...I love that fight. A great
start to a great trilogy.
Bowe gets discredited a lot on here, but irrespective of his Golota
bouts, he has just one L on his record and looked good for most his
career, even with a belly full of ice cream.

He did look shoddy at times while winning, but even his, 'L' was a narrow win on my scorecard (twice).Robinson wrote:When I first watched that fight, I did not know the result (had it on VHS),

I have scored the second Holy fight both ways. I shall have to
rewatch it again. And rescore.
I think every champ looks shoddy at some stage. Even in their
primes...

I go for the 1950 Jake LaMotta 15th Rd. KO of Laurent Dauthille. I had a mate who was in the Merchant Navy and was over there at the time. He raved over it when he came home. I did see some highlights of it in our local cineme some weeks after, I took ' The Ring ' at the time and the review of it was that it really was some fight.

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
After almost 15 years
I have a question: are there any sources for Ring Magazines fights of the year before 1945 and where are they?
Here on boxrec: 1945- only https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Ring_ ... f_the_Year;
the Ring Magazine itself: 1945- only https://www.ringtv.com/182653-past-winn ... nd-awards/
I mean, did this award actually exist before 1945?

Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
From 1951 forward the only one I haven't seen is Giardello-Hank.
Re: Ring Magazines fights of the year - What one would you pick?
Correction : I didn't see Brown versus Charnley either.
