Yes, I saw this on SecondsOut. I don't know what to make of it.get in the ring wrote:Wow...I'm shocked![]()

It seems odd to me
But then again, from Fight Academy's POV its a pretty good signing. There's a lot of fights against British boxers out there for Golota, and if he's got anything left he'd be favourite in a few of them.
He'd also have a good shot at beating Sam, if he shows any kind of form in his comeback fights.
When do you imagine he'd have his first fight for Hobson/Waterman??? They have a promotion of Friday which he won't be on...so when would his next fight be? Bear in mind he is 35 now and needs to stay active.

I think it could be a great addition to British Boxing, so long as his new promotional team keep a tight reign on him.
Its not inconceivable that Golota could be over here and get himself into the sort of bother that would see him wind up in the big house.
He would give any British heavy a good fight thats for sure. Golota v Williams would be the Battle of Physical Giants/Mental Midgets. Both have the physical tools to beat anyone in the world but neither have the winner's mentality. Its a shame as they are two of my favourites.
Lets hope Golota's signing opens some doorways for him - he could certainly look to the European title and we Brits haven't been 'burnt' as the yanks were when he quit against Tyson.

I am surprised with golota signing to fight in Great Britain,
I though it would be easier to fight in America and there’s more chance of fighting against a top 20 heavyweight,
It seems by his interviews he has got something against our British heavies,
I would love to see golota fight Williams, hide and Harrison and it would be a dangerous fight for each fighter,
I would love to see golota vs hide the most,

Can't see all that much happening. I think Golota is using it as a stop gap to show the bigger promoters that he's back and serious about his comeback.
He hasn't fought for 3 years and hasn't won a fight in about 4 or 5 years. Its only a 5 fight deal.
People here still remember him so he'll sure help the promoters sell the tickets, but for only 5 fights it will be more of a side show. I would say 3 fighters of McCafferty's class. Maybe the last 2 he might stepped it up to Julius Francis/Mike Holden sort of level.
Then he'll go back to America.
Its a good move for all party's. Golota needs to be thought of again, the promoters need to make a name for themselves. This will do both, but for a guy who aint fought in 3 years he's hardly going to fight a top twenty ranked fighter in his first 5 fights. People will come (the non-hardcore fans) to see the "freak" in action, but at the same time will be impressed with the fight academy's other fighters, so hopefully will watch them again when Golota isn't appearing on the bill. Smart move.

Dam, well another promotional company making a statement IMO...
Golota ain't much now but is still a big draw to fight fans...
He won a comeback fight the other day, Stu, near Chicago. Thousands of Chicago-based Poles turned out to see him, which makes me wonder what the hell he's doing signing a five-fight deal to fight over here.stujones wrote: He hasn't fought for 3 years and hasn't won a fight in about 4 or 5 years.
Beat some bum in about seven rounds.
Just heard about his fight.
Apparently there were a few low blows from the Pole in that contest as well, so has he learned his lesson as his new promoters claim? Time will tell,
Also, I have heard the apparently Golota got signed thanks to the involvement of his mate Tim Witherspoon.
Apparently the plan is a fight with Samil Sam, revenge for Danny and the things he said.

I believe it was Brian Rix that Golota beat in his return but i could be wrong, he is definately a welcome addition to the domestic scene and would offer good competition to Hide, Williams, Harrison (if he returns anytime soon). What's the betting his first fight is with that good old reliable yardstick....Derek McCafferty? ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

LOL! you guys!
golota, even at the age of 35, is LEAGUES above british heavies.
you have to understand, the british heavies here (williams, sprott, francis, shot hide) would only be of a weak journeyman standard in the states.
golota with all his physical strength, elite level experience and talent would mow right through everyone in britain.
there is not an active heavy in the UK who will even give golota a semi decent fight.
