Is this the first time you have come across The Orchid Man Rhino? I am suprised by that to be truthful. You can see clips of some of his fights on youtube - check them out. A fantastic fighter with a remarkable career.

ive heard of him before, but in all honesty have never even looked at the great mans career, thats the beauty of this game, there is always something to make you sit up and think...wow.

there is so much history in boxing, so many statistics, so much 'what could have been'. mythical match ups etc. prim etyson v prime ali, we see the threads weekly, but i got a whiff of georges carpentier from another site, so i looked into it a bit deeper.

Fair play :TU: I know what you mean - that is one of the great things about boxing - it's history is so rich and deep that you can still continue to unearth great fighters and great fights after literally decades following the sport...

At Light heavy Carpentier fought Ted 'kid' Lewis, who also started out as a flyweight.

I've a couple of old books written by Carpentier at home, and even now they make good reading.
Have a look on ebay for 'My Fighting Life' by Georges Carpentier and also 'The Art of Boxing' by the man.

I have a series of postcards , which follow the bout with Joe Beckett. They make an excellent addition to my small collection, basically the series follows the fight, from ring entrances, to Georges Carpentier being paraded around the ring held aloft by his cornermen.

I've several other pieces on Carpentier from newspapers of the time, and he was really a huge star in France, think Pacman status in his home country.

This is a guy who won world titles, won bravery awards for his aviation skills in WW1, wrote books, and starred in films.
