Empress Hall amateur fight between 1946 - 1950

Post by CY33 »

Hi,

My late father (George Yallop born 1932) occasionally mentioned an amateur boxing match he took part in while he was a schoolboy in the mid to late 1940's.
I believe the venue was Empress Hall, Earls Court and I think he must have entered the fight while a schoolboy at Brentwood School, Essex which he attended at the time.
I always remember him recalling the complete thrashing he received, and how he remembered waking up on the deck looking through the tops of his eyelids!! He didn't carry on boxing after that.
Does anyone know if there were regular boxing tournaments at this venue and if so, were these bouts written up or recorded in basic detail by the boxing press or local newspapers.
Many thanks

Records were not kept for the most part prior to 1987. My suggestion is to contact the newspapers in the city the event was held and see if they have any mention in their archives.
