MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
The Leicester binman is willing to risk next year’s world title challenge against WBC 8st 10lb champion Toshiaki Nishioka and face the Irishman first.
Munroe (20-1) is ranked second in the world by the WBC and underlined his world title credentials outpointing Simone Maludrottu last week.
It was the fifth title defence by the southpaw who took the title from Kiko Martinez – who had flattened Dunne in 86 seconds.
Munroe has since repeated that win over Martinez, while poor Dunne’s career is in the doldrums after losing his WBA crown in three rounds to Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in September.
Munroe’s promoter Frank Maloney said: “We made a fantastic offer for Bernard to face Munroe last year and I never heard a word from Dunne’s camp.
“I am now willing to make them another offer to face Munroe early next year if they are brave enough to step forward. All his manager, Brian Peters has to do is call and lets see if he is up for the challenge, but somehow I doubt it.
“People might think I’m crazy to want the match, but Rendall could do with a knockout before facing Nishioka.”
Maloney also hit out at internet criticism of Munroe, who has held the European title since February 2008 and also won the Commonwealth title.
He added: “It is unfair on Rendall, but he has got big shoulders and just laughs off the criticism from people.
“I do get angry because he has made five defences, and beaten two mandatory challenges who are world class, Martinez and Maludrottu.
“Martinez was unbeaten in 17 when Rendall beat him for the first time. Maludrottu is a top drawer, made six defences of the European bantamweight title and last 12 rounds in a world title challenge in Japan.
“Rendall is one of the strongest super-bantamweights in the world and a top class pressure fighter

Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
Is this basically a long winded way of saying that Maloney can't deliver a World title fight for Munroe so this is a desperate plea for a plan B?
Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
The whole thing is a joke from Maloney..You left out the first line which stated that Munroe was throwing a lifeline to the FADING career of Bernard Dunne. Dunnes career is far from finished at 29 and he still has plenty to offer, just has to be a bit picky about his choice of opponents in the future. Fair enough he has a suspec chin but Munroe is hardly going to set the world on fire either!
Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
I personally can't see why anyone would be slating Munroe, he seems a good honest pro who wants to be in BIG fights.
Come on Bernard Dunne step up to the mark!

People say Dunne dodged Munroe over the last year or so. Who did he fight instead:
Cordoba-the World Champ at the time who has beaten Cabellero..
Poonsawat-the fighter who other boxers avoided and now regarded as one of the Top Super Bantams in the world.
Are you saying Dunne doesn't look for the BIG fights? As far as I remember Munroe refused Dunne a shot at his EBU belt before Dunne-Cordoba was made. Munroe only wanted Dunne when he was World Champ.

Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
nope your wrong. munroe wanted dunne in nottingham before the dunne cordoba fight. but dunne said he would only fight him in ireland. neither man wanted to box away from home. munroe turned down the cordoba fight. he was not ready.then dunne stepped up n beat cordobaDeno1986 wrote:I have nothing against Munroe, more against Maloney!Chambers2 wrote:I personally can't see why anyone would be slating Munroe, he seems a good honest pro who wants to be in BIG fights.

Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
thats what Maloney said but the man is full of bs. Munroe blatantly came over to Dublin last December to show he wasn't afraid to travel over to fight Dunne and he said this himself in the post fight interview. BUT when Peters contacted Maloney in January to set up a fight in Dublin between Munroe-Dunne, Maloney told him to get lost. So Munroe said he would travel to fight Dunne, Peters took the bait, Maloney wasn't expecting it and gets scared. I never heard anything legit about Munroe refusing Cordoba, I do remember Munroe shouting off his mouth wondering why Dunne got the title fight before him etc.MrBoxingUK2 wrote:nope your wrong. munroe wanted dunne in nottingham before the dunne cordoba fight. but dunne said he would only fight him in ireland. neither man wanted to box away from home. munroe turned down the cordoba fight. he was not ready.then dunne stepped up n beat cordobaDeno1986 wrote:I have nothing against Munroe, more against Maloney!Chambers2 wrote:I personally can't see why anyone would be slating Munroe, he seems a good honest pro who wants to be in BIG fights.

Don't get me wrong, as I said already I have nothing against Munroe and I'm not pushed about Dunne being a homebird either, he needs to start fighting some fights outside of Ireland but my point is Munroe made the point of coming over to fight Trotta in Dublin to show Dunne he wasn't afraid of travelling to fight but when push came to shove Maloney did a runner and started telling anyone who cared that Dunne was ducking Munroe.MarcMero wrote:Neither man wanted to fight the other man away from home mate. Why penalise Munroe when Dunne was acting exactly the same?Deno1986 wrote: thats what Maloney said but the man is full of bs. Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
Why would Dunne duck Munroe, he didn't duck Poonswat who is in the top 4 super bantamweights in the World and number 2 according to the ring magazine and Poonswat is far more dangerous to Dunne than Munroe will ever be.
Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
coming over to Ireland to fight somebody else isn't the same as coming over to face Dunne though is it.
It's got points written all over it. Dunne has shown that he is capable of getting KO'd on his own doorstep so imo he shouldn't mind moving off it. Fighting at home doesn't preclude you from getting knocked out.
The reality is there's probably not enough room for both of them at World Level, so whoever loses between them it would cost them alot of money and take a while to re-establish themselves. It's a fight I would love to see though.

Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
there's clearly money & profile in fighting dunne and i reckon maloney and munroe are very eager to make this fight. i will hold back from saying desperate though. it would probably be an easier sell - munroe v dunne - than perhaps a world title fight with the japanese champ nishioka. there is no certainty that they can get him to come over here, and perhaps frank wants a piece of some of the action that goes on in ireland? with the big crowds and such?
as a hardcore boxing fan i'd love to see munroe - a dominant euro champ with some good wins and a world rating in sanctioning bodies and top magazines - take it to the hard slugigng nishioka for the WBC strap.
i don't agree with posters saying dunne has loads left. he fell to pieces and i personally doubt he can make the weight. does he have the stomach for a hard 12 rounder down at 122? would there be any point making the fight above 122?

going by my experience of watching Dunne in Dublin it would be a far bigger show than if it was in the UK.Autobarn wrote:and perhaps frank wants a piece of some of the action that goes on in ireland? with the big crowds and such?
Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
the fight should take place in dublin for to reasons 1, dunne fills the o2 and munroe fills out small halls around the midlands so the fight will make a lot more money in ireland 2, I get to go dublin and get Pissed for the weekend

All involved can earn decent coin from this fight.
Plus it would capture the UK & Ireland's imagination.
Get it made lads, get it made !

Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
it would be interesting to see if the fight was in England, how many fans Dunne would bring over. If its the same as any other sport and judging by Dunnes support here at home and considering its a Ireland v England fight, Munroe could be embarrased by being the home fighter but Dunne having more support. We also don't have a world cup to go to either so this would be an excuse for a trip to Dublin airport and the oportunity to get fueled up abroad for the weekend!diggler wrote:the fight should take place in dublin for to reasons 1, dunne fills the o2 and munroe fills out small halls around the midlands so the fight will make a lot more money in ireland 2, I get to go dublin and get Pissed for the weekend
Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
i think munroe would take the EBU belt to ireland for a bigger crowd, more TV money, better payday?
it could be a decent story with them both being top 10 super bantams, and the angle that munroe beat the man who...
rather see munroe v nishioka. nishioka's had an interesting career. as a rookie bantam he extended brilliant veeraphol twice (out of 4 tough meetings), then battered a number of just past their prime mexicans for the WBC super bantam title. next it would be nice to see him fight a good fighter in his prime like munroe.
ok, i want to see nishioka in action without having to wait weeks for the disc to come from japan! 122-pounders really do produce good fights.

why would he be embarassed. he is a bin man who is euopean champion. he clearly isn't embarassed about his day job so why would he be over dunne bringing over more fans? so your saying mayweather and pacman were embarrassed by fatton having more fansDeno1986 wrote:it would be interesting to see if the fight was in England, how many fans Dunne would bring over. Re: MALONEY: BERNARD’S NOT DUNNE A DUSTED
I think Dunne would probably want a softish comeback fight first to build the confidence and see if everything still works like it should, then Munroe if he is still available.
Would be an interesting cross roads fight. If Dunne still has it then I think he'll take the UD. It won't sell out the 02 though. Might have done before the Dunne loss but I think Dunne struggled to get capacity there a couple of times even when he was on a role.
PS: Kiko was never world class like stated in the press release. He's euro class with a world class punching power. Solid win for Munroe but not against world class opposition.
