Can Salita take the title from Khan?
I know Salita is unbeaten but there dont appear to be any special names on his record. So is this a risky fight for Khan against an undefeated fighter or is it a mismatch against a fighter with a padded record? Does Salita have a real chance of winning, or is he here just for a big payday?
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Hes not going to outbox Khan so he needs to find a bingo punch, not sure he has one....
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Salita shouldn't really be anywhere near a World Title fight so he has that in common with Khan. He is only there because he was brought up through the pros by Bob Arum and Top Rank, he has a good markability factor because of his religious beliefs and background. Even when Arum was handpicking opponents for him, he struggled at times, think he has been on the canvas a few times in his career. Cant see him beating Khan because i don't think he has a punch to exploit Khans chin.
He seems like a nice fella, another poster put up a BBC Documentary about him in his early career, its a good watch:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd7jSpV4 ... 1C&index=0
The other 8 parts are in a playlist on the right hand side of Part 1

Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Its hard to make a case for Salita winning this, no real names to judge him by and dosen't seem to have much power so all we can hope for is a good competitive fight for a few rounds and forcing Salita to retire or tko'd by around the 6th rd.
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
errrrrr no he dosent have that in common, Khan scored a very convincing win over a Top 10 Light welterweight in Kotelnik wheras Salita probably hasn't beaten a Top 50 Light Welterweight in his whole career.Deno1986 wrote:Salita shouldn't really be anywhere near a World Title fight so he has that in common with Khan

Hello and welcome to boxing.
I assume you're not familiar with allegedly events?

And who did Khan beat to get a shot at Kotelniks Light Welterweight Title may I ask?exittored wrote:errrrrr no he dosent have that in common, Khan scored a very convincing win over a Top 10 Light welterweight in Kotelnik wheras Salita probably hasn't beaten a Top 50 Light Welterweight in his whole career.Deno1986 wrote:Salita shouldn't really be anywhere near a World Title fight so he has that in common with Khan

Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Cheeky git. I was listening to fights on the radio in the 1950s and watching them on TV in the 1960s. I was also attending fights during that time and I also boxed for my school in the 1950s. I am perfectly aware FW often puts on fights that are a foregone conclusion and I was asking for your opinions, not a friggin insult from you. Prescott was undefeated with a padded record (wins against people who had never even won a fight) and Khan should therefore have beaten him. Wrong gameplan, poor defence, weak chin, lack of respect for a puncher etc all lead to Khans downfall. Could it happen again, Salita isnt exactly a mug. He doesnt appear to have a big punch but neither did Limond. The question is there to be answered by those who know their boxing, not smart arses who think its clever to make stupid sarcastic comments.overhand_right wrote:WildWaylon wrote: So is this a risky fight for Khan against an undefeated fighter or is it a mismatch against a fighter with a padded record?

This is fight just does not have the juices flowing at all, Khan is not the star he or Warren think he is.

Definitely not worthy of a £15 price tag, World Title fight or not.teddy007 wrote:This is fight just does not have the juices flowing at all, Khan is not the star he or Warren think he is.

Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
bit off topic but is anyone else looking forward to Mitchell-Prescott more than the main event??
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Salita is very, very average. He does everything to an OK standard, but nothing particularly well. Kotelnik is better than Salita.
I just can't see Salita winning.

Definitely. I can't wait for that. Wicked fight.Deno1986 wrote:bit off topic but is anyone else looking forward to Mitchell-Prescott more than the main event??

Seconded - I'm going to pay to watch this.Asterix wrote:Definitely. I can't wait for that. Wicked fight.Deno1986 wrote:bit off topic but is anyone else looking forward to Mitchell-Prescott more than the main event??
When the Khan fight comes on, i'll watch the first few rounds but probably fall asleep after 3 or four rounds when it's a case of Khan on the outside, get in, gets his punches off, and gets on his bike again ala Kotelnik. zzzzzzzz

Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Very few fighters are bums, even journeymen deserve some respect. Salita is no bum but he may well be on another level, below Khan. As for Khan being a great fighter in the future, only time will tell. I dont think Khan can take punches too well and at World level I think he is going to find it rather tough.MrBoxingUK2 wrote:i think khan will be a great fighter in the future. this fight is a complete mismatch tho. salita is a bumteddy007 wrote:This is fight just does not have the juices flowing at all, Khan is not the star he or Warren think he is.
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Im watching this at justin's house.
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
I don't think Salita is any good. His record is completely filled with bums. The guy Salita drew with, has 2 KO'S from 27 fights.....
I've seen two Salita fights on youtube. He looks very average. If Khan wants to be taken seriously as a legit world champion. He should beat this guy quite easily.
Not worth the £15 though. So I wont be watching. I don't think I can even be bothered to find a stream for it.

Khan's chin is so bad he does have a chance of winning, if he catches Khan early on we all know what can happen

Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Indeed - Salita has a roughly 50% KO record and regardless of his prior opposition that's enough to send Khan tumbling to defeat should he land a solid but unspectacular shot on the chin. I'm not going to denigrate Khan or wish him anything but the best in his career, but almost anyone is capable of knocking him out if they hit him cleanly.taffytoon wrote:Khan's chin is so bad he does have a chance of winning, if he catches Khan early on we all know what can happen
Re: Can Salita take the title from Khan?
Wow. I just noticed that the draw Salita had was against Ramon Montano.
The guy only has 2 KO'S from 27 fights. Yet, he dropped Salita twice. In the first round! It's going to be even easier for Khan that I first realized.
Imma have a £5 on Khan for rounds 1, 2 and 3. 20/1 average odds for each of those rounds.
