Jones/Green spoiler!!

Post by lurkyshaka »

Green KO 1 and i'm not kidding!

Green dropped him a couple minutes in and then the ref dived in when he followed up.

Roy Jones was spectacularly stopped by the referee with 58 seconds of the first round remaining whilst challenging for Danny Green's IBO Cruiserweight title.

A big right hand dropped the American who had been cornered, which landed on the left of his temple.

Jones was badly hurt by the punch. After the managing to get back to his feet, the Australian poured it on and the referee Howard Foster waved the fight off as Jones was in no fit state to fight on.

"I dont know what to say, firstly i want to say something to everyone in Australia and Sydney who tuned in to watch this fight and without you guys it wouldn't have been a success"

"Secondly, to Roy Jones junior - he deserves a lot more recognition than this short time allows him. He is one of the greatest of all time."

"He is bloody legend."

I'm surprised this is news to you, but Calzaghe's hands were done in. Not only that, but he hurt one of them early in the fight against Jones.

good win for green on the fringe circuit. seemingly lucrative fight, though we will have to wait for the PPV #s.

is green too small at 179-pounds to challenge adamek? it would be interesting as green has got a bit of fame and could win a world title at a 2nd weight, a much more acknowledged title (Ring mag cruiserweight belt). or is it just not happening?

Err, because boxing doesn't work like that.

God it's painful on here sometimes.

Maybe it's because Danny Green has more power than Calzaghe?

As i said after watching Brodie get KO'd , boxing is a cruel sport sometimes.

Jones took a risk and its backfired completly.
on the positive side, Green has always seemed a decent guy, so can't begrudge him the $$ he's made from tonight and in the future, definatly a fun boxer to watch.

I said as soon as this fight was announced that Greens power could be a factor in this fight.

Calzaghe will have to retract a few of his recent statements after this last two week's results.

"I don't want to be the third man to knock out an old Roy Jones". (insert "instead I will let Danny Green do it."

"Kessler is the best super middleweight in the world" (remove "World" insert "Copenhagen")

Calzaghe's win over Jones meant very little, not because of this fight, but because we could all see the Jones wandering around after Calzaghe like a zombie with his high guard was nothing like the Jones we had all seen in his prime. It was a nice payday for both fights, one for Calzaghe to retire on and one Roy should have retired on.

Not really surprised by this, Green is not a bad fighter and can certainly punch

Massive shock to see Green stop him in the first but as someone said thank god we wont have to watch B Hop v Roy Jones now.

Not liking the Calzaghe bashing so what he didnt stop him he got the win and we have to remember this fight was at cruiser albeit they weighed in miles off the mark, Green now is miles more powerful than Calzaghe was when he fought RJJ.

Unfortunately Lenny,

I gather that the fight "two worlds collide" grossed very little between Calzaghe and Jones.

It neither did well on PPV nor on the gate. It made money (no doubt) ... but for a 'super fight' it was a damp squib.

For those who are re-evaluating Calzaghe's win over Jones based on this loss to Green, give yourself's a shake. Calzaghe's win over a shot-to-sh*t Jones never meant anything to anyone with an IQ higher than 61. If your having problems comming to grips with that, then you should probably be posting over on East Side Boxing.
