Manny is an ATG, thats for sure, but I wouldnt say he's Armstrong. Armstrong could have held 4 world titles at 4 different weight classes at one time had he not been given a draw with the MW champion of the world Ceferino Garcia. Manny may be the first to hold 7 titles at 7 different weights, but its strung out over several years.

Mayweather, despite his record, imho, has never fought anyone all in their prime or at their absoloute best. He's always had the advantage. Hatton had to move up in weight, so did Marquez, De La Hoya was more a businessman than a fighter; theres a lack of quality fights in his resume. Sure he's great in this era, but would he have been great in the era of Robinson or Basilio?

Against Pacquia, again, he has all the advantages in the world, the size mainly. I'm sure, if he fought Armstrong, though, he would get man handled. Crazy as that may seem or sound, he's never fought anyone near Armstrong's class and ability. I think Armstrong wins a UD over Mayweather.

Mayweather against Armstrong for 15 rounds many today won't make it, not even Floyd. Floyd has great stamina. Armstrong IS stamina. An irregular heartbeat which makes him almost impossible to get tired. Armstrong's attack game was too much for anyone from welter on down today.

There was Castillo, who was certainly a very capable fighter, but not in the class of an Armstrong, to put it mildly. That, & Mayweather's best performance against him (the re-match) was a relatively close win. Still, there's a bit of red herring business in your post, IMO --- even if I agree to some extent. Hatton was coming up, Corrales was weight-drained, De La Hoya was past his best, & Hernandez, likewise. Even so, all four are top-notch, or near-top-notch, victories, which add to his legacy.

Like a Ricardo Lopez or a Roy Jones, though, Mayweather seems a fighter whose talent is going to forever out-strip his actual achievements, based on general opposition level.

Floyd wouldn't have beaten some of the guys who Armstrong beat, let alone Armstrong.

I'd take Armstrong by close, competitive decision. Mayweather's infighting skill could neutralize Armstrong at times, but Hank's skill at cutting off the ring and relentless pressure would ultimately be the difference in his favor.
